v4 and m4 texture problems with 3delight

shogalshogal Posts: 2

Hi there!

For some weeks now I have sometimes problems with the textures of v4.2 and m4 when rendering them with 3Delight; there is a thin line at the border of each texture (see picture).

This error happens with several textures and morphs, exspecially after I saved and reopened a scene. It happens with and without light and shadows. Sometimes it is also visible in the preview, sometimes not.

When using luxrender via reality plugin, there is no problem. I am using DS 4.7pro.

Thank you!

That looks, at first glance, like a UV map 'mismatch' - check that the figure/material zones have the correct UV map assigned to them.

    Thanks!

But as far as I can see, they are correct. These are materials I loaded via a poser pose-file, as usual. When I check the material-zones, there maps seem to be correct.

What else do I have to check?

What are your render settings? I'm guessing your shading rate needs to be lower.

It is the background of the texture map shining through. The artist of the light texture thought it would be a great idea to use a dark background and the artist of the dark texture thought it would be a good idea to use a light background; both artists left a too small border around the UV-islands (very common mistake). Solutions would be to fire up your favourite paint program and change the backgrounds so that it matches the texture more closely, render at a higher resolution, or use a smaller shading rate.

3delight filters (i.e. blurs) the textures, then renders them; whereas luxrender samples the textures, and then filters (i.e. averages) the final image, so it does not have that problem (but it produces noise instead).

    Thank you for the help!

My shading rate was at 10. The stripes disapeared when I put it to the lowest possible (0.01). And yes, all the textures have white background.

Thank you again, now I can handle the problem!

Great, I usually use a shading rate of .20 for final, .50-1.0 for drafts, although sometimes there are particular effects that need you to go even lower.
