4.8 iray rendering getting stuck

When I try to use the iray renderer in the new 4.8 beta it will get stuck on an iteration. it has gotten stuck on iteration 3, 7 and 26 so far. I have let it render for over 8 hours but it stays on that iteration. I am not changing anything in the render settings. The iray renderer worked the first few times but not now. Even the intermediate openGL doesn't work most of the time. Only the basic is working but it looks terrible.

My system specs are: PC Windows 7 Ultimate with 3.60ghz i7 processor, Nvidia GTX 970 graphic card. 16 gig of ram, 6TB of storage. I have tried to use both the processor and the nvidia card to help the render but to no avail.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

You mean even 3delight is failing? Do you get the issue if you render a scene with just a single primitive?

That's right. 3delight never worked. I tried it with just v6. I have not tried it with say a box. The only thing that is working is the basic openGL.

Well, if 3delight has never worked that sounds as if there is something seriously wrong. The obvious first question is how does it fail, and did you install the default Lights and Shaders when you installed DAZ Studio?

I downloaded it normally and installed it. I did not see anything extra, lights or cameras or anything like that that needed to go withit. Everything I download is installed with daz's install manager. As far as I can remember when I used 3Delight the render window came up, another window came up, and comes up with intermediate OpenGL, that say: warning, obstructing the viewer window may cause the rendered image to be corrupt. Or something of that nature. Then the small window that says 'rendering' comes up, but nothing ever happens. Right now with all the renders beside basic, the rendering window that is supposed to have the image is just black.

In DIM, find the Default Lights and Shaders in the Installed tab. Uninstall it. Find it in the ready to Install tab (or Ready to Download, if DIM is set to delete installers) and install it (sahders and plug-ins will need to be reinstalled if this is your first beta version of DS).

Star a new scene, go to Create>New Primitive and set the type to sphere, then click Accept. Set the render engine, in Render Settings, to 3Delight. Render. Assuming it didn't render correctly, go to Help>Troubleshooting>View Log, scroll to the end, and then look back to see if there are any errors relating to the rendering process. If there are post that section of the log in a reply here.

OK, I did that and I saw an upgrade for 4.8 so I installed that. 3Delight works fine now. So does immediate OpenGL. I'm still having issues with Iray. It keeps getting stuck on an iteration and the render window stays black. I don't know if maybe I need more ram. I have tried using just the GPU and both the GPU and the CPU for rendering. It does not seem to make a difference. I have found it strange that when I try to stop a render it won't do it unless I kill the program.

Thank you for your help so far.

Your system specifications are better than mine, vastly better in the case of the GPU. Are you seeing the hang if you have a sceen with just a sphere primitive and set the render engine to Iray then click the Defaults button next to the engine picker in Render Settings?

No, no problem with just a sphere. I'll try a few other things that are a bit more involved and see where the issue starts. And I ordered another 16 GB of ram just to see what happens.
