Saving Surface Settings

Hi all.
Question...
Is there a way to save JUST the settings on something? Without saving the materials?
I have a particular setting for skin, wood, and metal but I need to reapply the setting individually on every new scene.
Like if I saved a Material Setting for a Genesis, it would apply everything, including the MATS.
All I want is the settings.

By mats do you mean textures/maps? If so, DS 4.8 allows you to save materials and Shader presets with the values or maps separately controllable - DS 4.7 doesn't have a way to do that, other than manually editing the .duf file.
You could remove the maps before saving...that effectively will save all the settings on a 'blank' figure.
Or when loading hold down the CTL/CMD key when clicking on the preset and choose Ignore, for the maps. You'll have to do the CTL-click on the first one, too...otherwise it will overwrite the maps with no maps...blank them out.
That will save "no map", wiping out the existing maps when applied (unless you do the ctrl-key thing). The new version allows you to save without anything said about maps, so there's no need for the ctrl key to be held to preserve existing maps with the new settings.
I wish there was a save shader preset button. That would be nice.
4.8 isnt out yet. It's still unofficial, beta testing. I'll wait for the bugs to get fixed. I have enough issues as it is lol.

But that's the best you'll be able to do until 4.8 is officially released.
If you want a button, rather than going to File>Save as>Shader preset or clicking the + button in the content library and selecting Shader Preset, go to Window>Workspace>Customise, on the left under Save Filters you will find the command, on the right click the Tool Bars tab, find the tool bar you want to add the button to, and drag the command from the left into the tool bar on the right.
