Should I get a 3060?

Hi Guys, new PC time!   My budget can stretch only to a nvidia gtx 3060. I'm currently rendering with nividia 1660. Do you think I will notice much of a differnce in my render times?

Many thanks.

Yes, you'll get greater than three times the render speed.

Really!? Sounds great, thanks! It's actually a 3060ti, don't know if that makes a difference?

I just purchased a whole system with an RTX 3060 12GM for my granson for $1350.  On Amazon, an RTX 3060 sells for $700-$800.  So if you need a whole system upgrade, they are a good bargain presently.  Shop on Dell/Alienware or iBuyPower for a good deal.

How much memory does the card have?  I would choose a RTX 3060 (or variant) with 12GB over one with 8GB.

It has 8g of ram. You reccomend going for the 3060 at 12g then?

Based on availability, price and memory I chose a 12GB 3060 system last year.

New system, if too much $$$ then wait for a resonable price on the 12GB RTX3060.

  • During a render, IRAY's use of GPU RAM can exceed the total size of thes scene siting in memory by several times. If the render runs out of GPU RAM, DS reverts to CPU-only rendering.

Take the RAM. Leave the cannoli.

Yeah it does, about a 4GB difference in VRAM...

And considering the base load of the OS, DS, the scene and the necessary Working space, a 12GB card has almost twice as much VRAM for the textures and geometry than a 8GB card has = Huge difference.

Would using a cheaper card for display to free up vram on the main render card improve this situation?

I'm thinking about getting a 3060 myself anyway, but looking at prices lately I'm also trying to come up with ways to use a 1060 6GB I already have. I gather from reading the new version of daz uses quite a bit of vram on GTX cards already.
