Does DAZ Studio have a TYPE Tool ?

Does DAZ Studio have a TYPE Tool?  A type tool so that one could type text in the viewport to make notes - not text to be rendered or be part of the scene.

Thanks!

  • No, though you can add tags (through the tabs at the bottom of Smart Content) and there have beena  couple of scripts offering soemthing along those lines (sorry, I can't recall the details).

I've never had anything show up in Smart Content.  I guess I'm not smart enoough.  How do you get anything to show up in Smart Content?  Then I'll try to add tags.

Does unchecking Filter By Context show anything? Do you have entries in the Products or Categories containers in the Content Library pane?

    Thanks

Text rendered to be part of the scene would be a lovely addition actually.
I suggested it once, some 8 years ago in a "what do you want in the next daz xx version" thread.

As a work around, I sometimes at a node or pick a part of something in the scene, click on it, then change it from, for ex, "collar" to "collar - whatever my note is."

I unchecked the Filter By Context and some things showed up in Smart Content.  At the top of the Smart Content tree is ALL FILES - when I click on that I don't get all files, I only get files I installed in the last 2 weeks.  When I move down the tree to PEOPLE and click on it, I get a couple of figures I installed years ago, like MICHAEL 2.  When I click on FIGURES, I get 869 figures.  In the regular CONTENT LIBRARY, when I click on PRODUCTS or CATEGORIES, I get thousands of results.  Thank you!  Maybe SMART CONTENT is working now.  I'll find out when I try to find things as I build scenes.  Maybe some items I have installed don't have meta data or something.

So, about TAGS - (I'll attach a screen shot) it looks like I can enter my own KEYWORDS - can these be custom keywords, or do they have to come from a keyword list?  If I enter a keyword - what does it do?  Can I search Smart Content with the keyword?

There's also a space where I can type NOTES.  Where do the notes show up?

I solved the TYPING TEXT in the viewport problem by using the Stickies utility on my Mac which is like a post-it note.  I can type my text on the Sticky and drag the Sticky note over the DAZ Studio viewport and take a screen capture which works well enough for my purposes.

  • The number of files shown is limited, so if you look at All Files with no filtering it will show only the first eighteen-hundred - if sort order is by purchase date or install date then that is likely to be only the fairly new stuff.

  • People is an old category, it should not be in use now - presumably the older products you are seeing have not (yet) been updated to reflect that.

Yes, you can add tags ("userwords") - see http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/interface/panes/smart_content/information_panel/tags_page/start . In Samrt Content you can click assigned tags in the list to filter by those tags (which will show how to format the filter).

Notes will be dispalyed in the tags page, but only when the asset is selected http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/interface/panes/smart_content/information_panel/start

Here is another way:  This works for me (using v4.11.0.383 in Windows), and has the advantage of the notes being saved/loaded with the Scene.

    1. In the Scene Pane, select the relevant Node.
    2. In the Parameters Pane, Right-Click to get the context menu, and activate "Edit Mode".
    3. In the Parameters Pane, Right-Click again, and click on "Create New Property...".
    4. In the "Create New Property" dialog, set the "Property Type" to String, and set the "Name" and "Label" to Notes (or whatever you want).   Set the other attributes as you want (or you can change them later).  Click on [Create]
    5. In the Parameters Pane, Right-Click and de-activate "Edit Mode".
    6. Your Node now has a Parameter named "Notes" that displays a bit of text.  Click on its [...] button to edit/inspect its full text.  The text suppports Copy/Paste/etc. operations.

I know you have a Mac - you said so in your prior post.

I also know that it is a near-certainty that you can do the equivalent on a Mac (using Alt+Left-Click instead of Right-Click?) - hopefully a kind Mac user will provide the correct details...

    On a Mac, right-click works.

Control-click, not alt (or rather option) click - though Mac users can have two button mice

Mice?  Mice went the way of the Dodo bird.

Another option is to save your Notes when you save your Scene file(s) using the Super Save product by V3Digitimes

    From the product description:

As an additional option, you can also enter a text in a comment box, which will be saved as a text file beside your scene file.
