A way to soften shadow edges?

As you can see from the attached render, I have the Flyer Eagle flying low on the Planet Gaya.

The scene looks great except that the shadow is so hard edge.

Is there a way in the settings to tell DAZ Studio to soften shadows?

That would make the scene so much better.

Increase the size of the light.

A bit more info on what your currently using would be helpful, but you might try either a Sun-Sky environment or simply go with an HDR.

  • Maybe you find some information in this thread:

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/545831/put-shine-on-genesis-skin

Its title says "shine on skin" but it is about lighting in general.

Posts in Part 2 and Part 3 might be of interest. Part 2 starts in about the middle of the first thread page.

You can also add more light sources from other angles.  That can be used to add some more dimension to how the scene looks, but it can also soften and demphasize the shadows in question.

I often use a combination of HDR and Spotlight with the Spotlight geometry set to Disc and the Height and Width set to 80 or 100. Just have to be careful with reflections because a mirror or a window will reflect that big disc.
