Carrara Challenge #XVII Wonder of my World - WINNERS

Carrara Challenge #XVII Wonder of my World - Prizes from Stonemason
For as long as there has been art, artists in all mediums have wondered and inspired us as to what was and what is. This
month’s EPIC challenge is to emulate those artists and show us a scene of your own that is inspired by a Wonder of Your World
Your subject can be anything from the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World to what you think is wonderful of the area you come from or live in.
Maybe the Hanging Gardens of Babylon is your inspiration or maybe the old house down the road where once a famous to be person once lived.
Whatever your Wonder may be, make it EPIC with a story to tell.
So all you Carrara'ists out there whether old or new now is your chance to get to work and enter your WiPs for a chance at winning some great prizes from our sponsors STONEMASON & DAZ3D
The Work in Progress thread is here:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/55008/#799813
as well as prizes from Stonemason DAZ3D will be sponsoring with prizes as well
So follow all the work in the Carrara Challenge thread to learn, get some ideas and to get excited.. it will be EPIC
Keep an eye on this thread as well as it will be updated by keen and enthusiastic participants who want to see your entries and workflows and who will also keep you updated with the latest info..
Having fun is compulsory

time to get those thoughts and ideas posted in the XVII Wonder of my World Challenge
everyone is welcome to come see the work flows to the final renders of the entries..
all new Carrara'ists, the time is right to get into Carrara and have a chance at winning some great products from DAZ & Stonemason
come and post your ideas... or any problems you may be having.. there are plenty of helpful members willing and able to help you out
Imagine the chance of winning any 3 items from Stonemason's incredible store - for free! Plus $100.00 worth of any Daz-owned stuff!
C'mon people, show us what you got!
...I'd enter this one, however really not good at modelling or altering content. to meet that requirement.
Looks like fun. Can anyone participate in this contest and use whatever rendering engine/ modeling program they want? Or is this strictly only for Carrara users only?
I hear what you're saying, but don't be put off by that as it's not as hard as what it seems..
heck.. if I can do it anyone can..
this image I knocked up today in Carrara using just primitives for the wood fence and pipe fence..
that's two different objects made and textured which makes it qualify..
The banana is a vertex object pushed and pulled into a rough banana shape and I used Stonemason's warehouse for the bakground
It's so easy in Carrara to make simple objects and the Carrara peeples are there to help if you get stuck..
It's the best way to try, learn & create with a chance of winning a prize...
Here are the rules for you to peruse ;-)
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/55008/
After indepth discussions on the benefits of Vegemite the first of the work in progress posts have arrived..
Jonstark has started the ball rolling with some explanations of his work in the vertex modelling room.
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/802136/
I have posted a simple show & tell on how easy it is to get to a final image using the minimal of created items & retexturing
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/802533/
Join in the fun... ;-)
It's amazing what these challenges do for us..
MDO2010 is going to embark on a field trip over the weekend to get inspiration on his idea based on some part of Starved Rock State Park
sounds exciting.. but before his field trip he is working on another challenge ( you can enter 2 you know ) and it looks like an Egyptian type theme to me with thoughts by members of a Ripley's type journal.. wow
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/802144/
Johnstark needed some help on his challenge about glowing objects and member DUDU_00001 was quick out of the blocks with advice ..
could it be a light saber being created.. hmmm
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/803022/
and Evilproducer who is never far away from the action is also showing how he uses the colour and alpha plus aura settings that Carrara has...
Let your imagination run wild..
I quickly knocked this one up this morning, Stonehenge and Ancient Aliens... maybe that's where Bunnings came from!
Used Carrara's text tool the Stonehenge from the Daz store, grass from MMoir and applied a surface replicator made a crappy looking whipper snipper and used M4 with MortemVetus's Templar Knight..
Prizes from Stonemason! Plus hundreds of dollars worth of Daz prizes too... It really is worthwhile to scratch up an entry, even if only to have a little fun participating and brush up on your skillz (or learn some new ones).
For example, I just learned how to make the 'aura' effect work, thanks to some tips from folks in the Carrara forums. Now I can take over the world... :)
...Both are really cool.
Stezza: Love the Vulcan salute and weed whacker.
Jonstark, The glow effect is really good, especially on the monster under the bed.
don't worry, just add some hair or something to the ground for grass , and use a replicator on something else, that way you learn stuff and get to participate :)
if you need help just ask, that's what we are here for
here's something dirty, my start on Pipeline
You gotta walk the plank, ride the hook
Gonna let them ride and keep it nice and tight
And now the time is growin' near, you're movin' down the wall
As steady as she goes, you got your toes upon the nose
Here's another quick example I made up using a couple of items from sketchup..
all I did was drag and drop some shaders that come with Carrara and put them onto the opera house and bridge
I did a bit of postwork on the image to blur the background.. and it was fun in making it ;-)
hanging five toes on my malibooooo :) that's why they put nose concave in - the boards I mean
gee I was going to do the coathanger but you saved me all that modelling ;)
There is some awesome WiPs appearing in the challenge thread..
here's a breakdown of what's been happening:
MDO2010 is putting together an old journal
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/803106/
and Pimpy is putting together the Mayan pyramid of El Castillo in Chicen Itza
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/803402/
Jonstark is over the moon with the help he has received in creating an awesome aura effect in Carrara
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/803501/
head wax is keeping us all intrigued as to what he is up to
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/803986/
diomede64 is working furiously getting together cherry blossums which is an annual wondrous event in his area and has put together his work on making and mapping a terrain
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/806712/
from pen nibs to pyramids there is some awesome work to look and learn from
Here is a model of the big potato which is about a 20 minute drive from my place to the top of the escarpment where not only the famous pie place is but also the big potato.. an area that is rich in soil and grows the best potatoes :-)
The potato modelled from a sphere which I pushed and pulled into the general shape.. uv mapped and textured in PSE13 along with the sign which is a plane with postwork in PSE13. I also used elements from antfarm, stonemason, philw, howiefarkes & dimension theory..
Trees are blossoming in Spring. Want to have a big scene with many trees, each with many blossoms, and a little worried about scene size. I think Carrara's formula model may help reduce the burden of all those replicated plants.
Diomede64
Looking forward to seeing all the blossoms in their full glory..
Following on with 'BIG' things, beside the Big Banana & the Big Potato, we also have several Big Pineapples :-)
Knocked this guy up this arvo, using primitives again, making textures for it and with extras from several DAZ PAs
WiPs have slowed down in the main thread which means everyone must be hard at work with their ideas ..
Still plenty of time to work on your ideas and to get your WiPs posted here:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/55008/
MDO2010 looks close to finishing off his 1st entry and it looks smashing ;-)
Have a look here:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/809850/
Don't forget the great prizes available from DAZ3d and Stonemason
I actually have an idea for this one, and I'm in the very tentative stages of getting a scene together. I needed a model, which I found, but it needs a lot of work to clean up the mesh.
and the WiPs kep coming in.. and they are great..
Check out what's happening as the Challenge continues.
pimpy is going way beyond the 2012 Mayan end of world stuff with some great displacements on his Mayan idol images
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/810822/
The tools being used along with explanations and step throughs are a great help to the members that are new to Carrara, just ask Kyoto Kid.
Did you ever want to model a bluebell but just thought nah... too hard...
Well, in Carrara it is all explained by Tim_A on how to... check it out
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/810990/
Bunyip02 has started his WiPs as well and looks like it going to be a Wondrous underwater scene... this will be great
follow his progress here
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/811108/
Lot's of discussion in between posts as well on UV mapping... and we all love doing that :-)
If bluebells aren't your cup of tea and cherry blossoms are then Diomede64 is your man..
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/811428/
The epic fjords of Norway, who better to walk us through this part of the world than Varsel.. this is going to be awesome..
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/811781/
If you would rather be in outer space then who better to show you the way than EvilProducer.. He even proves that everyone in the Northern Hemishere is really upside down and us southerners are the right way round after all..
The proof is here:
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewreply/812705/
You have to read through the whole thread if you haven't.. it has taken on epic proportions and getting better..
Want to Learn stuff in Carrara? then start here for simple walk throughs
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/55008/
and there is still plenty of time to practice & work on your entries for a chance at some great prizes from DAZ3D & Stonemason..
To finish off here is another quickie I did of a place a few hours from me
The mountain road goes up and down
From Gundagai to Tumut Town
And, branching off, there runs a track
Across the foothills grim and black,
Across the plains and ranges grey
To Sydney city far away.
It came by chance one day that I
From Tumut rode to Gundagai
part of a poem by Banjo Patterson
About the dog on the Tuckerbox..
One version of the dog's role in pioneering times is that the dog was guarding its master's tuckerbox and other possessions while he sought help from being bogged at a river crossing.
The master, a bullocky or driver of a bullock team, never returns but the dog continues to guard the tuckerbox until its death.Tucker is an Australian word for food, so the foodbox the dog was guarding symbolised the sustenance (which needed protecting) of the region's pioneers.
Happy Rendering ;-)

Get Carrara 8.5Pro - http://www.daz3d.com/carrara-8-5-pro
My video project _will_ be complete this weekend!
Expect a flurry of posts. ;-)
...one question, if you already have 8.5 Pro, shouldn't there be an update in the product updates section of the DIM?
All I see is the Beta+ DL from 04/22.
Yep, I had the update & the new beta update in my DiM this morning when I logged on ;-)
...all I see in the updates.section of the DIM is the Daz Studio 4.8.0.53 beta update. Wouldn't be very pleased if I had to shell out another 65$.. I could accept it if it were Carrara 9, but not for the same version I already have.
Do you have Carrara 8.5 ticked in the DiM?
If you do and it ain't showing you may have to submit a ticket.. :-(
wow.. things are really heating up in the kitchen..
There is only a couple of days left to get your stuff together and enter the Carrara Challenge #XVII Wonder of my World which include Prizes from Stonemason :-)

Get Carrara 8.5Pro - http://www.daz3d.com/carrara-8-5-pro
continuing on with my Wondrous Australiana theme here is the Ettamogah Pub a wondrous iconic toon pub now found in several places around Oz.. created and rendered in Cararra 8.5Pro
History bit:
The Ettamogah Pub is a cartoon pub that was featured in the now defunct Australasian Post magazine. The cartoonist Ken Maynard, loving empty spaces and having nothing around him, enjoyed an area just outside of Albury at Table Top, named Ettamogah, thus christening the name of his now famous pub the "Ettamogah Pub" . The first "Ettamogah Pub" of a chain of such pubs was built there and copies now exist in various parts of Australia including Sydney, New South Wales, the Sunshine Coast, Queensland and Cunderdin, Western Australia.
The weekend is bearing down on us.. some sooner than later ;-)
Such great work being done in this challenge.. I hope you are all enjoying doing it.. looking at the final renders of the entries I think you have. grin
If you haven't already then not much time to do so.. get cracking :-)
Earwig time:
It’s astounding
Time is fleeting
Madness takes it’s toll…
But listen closely…
Not for very much longer…
I’ve got to keep control.
I remember doing the Render
Thinking those moments when
The pixels would hit me
And Carrara would be calling
Let’s do the Render again
Let’s do the Render again
By my reckoning ( it's nearly 3pm on the 24th where I am ) which makes just over an hour to go in DAZ Time to get your entries in..
chances are good in getting prizes in this challenge... :-)
