Rendering headache - moire nightmare

Hi there,

I am trying to render a scene with a logo + 3 characters - two of which render perfectly, then there's this...

The attached file is a 100% crop of the render (which is some 6000x4000) - and I have tried changing the Shading Rate to 1.0 (it was 6.0), render to RIB (also with a Shading Rate of 1.0).

I am stumped, especially since the other two characters come out great.

what the bump and/or displacement set to on the face? is the scale of the model figure 100% or something else?

    She's secretly a lizard person...

    I second the bump/displacement suggestion.

Also, does your Camera have Depth of Field on? If so, you can try adjusting Focal Distance and F/Stop to move the focus target or focus planes slightly away from the face. To see if that is the issue, you can turn off DoF temporarily to see if the problem goes away.

I would say this definitely relates to the AoA Surface being used.

Adjusting shading rate and or shading scale may help to dial out the effect.

But the most important thing to check is consistent settings across the GroupID setting.

Make sure the shading rate is the same on all surfaces using the same GroupID on the figure.

Also GroupID's need to be individual across figures with different settings.
You mentioned other figures in the scene is it possible that two have the same GroupID with different settings?
If so you will need to change the GroupID for the affected surfaces.

Very sound advice indeed - and I will get around to doing that, but... my visit to the forums pointed me in the direction of the DS 4.8 Beta, and wholy shite.. This rendered in like 15 seconds using the Iray renderer: (used it as a draw style in the camera viewport)

Lol, it's hard to ignore the new renderer once you've seen it. Iray is looking very impressive.
