DAZ Install Manager: "Download Failed"

I'm a longtime user of DAZ Studio but am using DAZ Install Manager for the first time today.

Earlier today I used Install Manager to download and install over a GB worth of new purchases. That worked great! But now I'm trying to do the same for three more newly purchased items but I keep getting the error "Download Failed". What's up with that?

Thanks.

I am getting the same - earlier it was difficult to get authentication and simply log in - the purchase links are communicatinf with DIM, it knows what I've ordered, but I can only manually DL the zip files.

The trouble is I don't really know the installation process, and I also bought a bundle that has 21 products in it.
I will have to manually DL each one - and would be willing to do that if I could figure out the manual installation process.

Or maybe I'll wait a day and the DIM server might be working better.

I found the DIM log file and it's pretty clear the problem is server side with all the 404's

oh hey - they are staring to DL now - ok, we just have to keep hitting the server until we get everything.

Yes, there's a problem on DAZ 3D's end -- they've partially fixed it but are still working on it.

In other words, go grab a coffee, go out for a pizza...do your laundry...get some 'real world observation' time...and don't worry about downloading anything for a while. The servers are 'under the weather' and will take a while to come back to full speed, even after they get it all fixed.

I've seen this issue sporadically over the last week, usually if I try to DL 5 items or more at a time. I usually let the ones that are working go finish then DL whats left one at a time. A little fussier than usual but I can get them all done eventually.

Thanks everybody for the replies. I can't get Install Manager to download my new content nor can I get it to display today's DAZ purchases. On the other hand the new purchases manually download fine.

I've been manually downloading and installing DAZ content for over a decade now, and that's what I'm going to continue to do; DAZ Install Manager has been uninstalled. Too flaky, too much of a pain to use. Thanks for trying.

UPDATE: After some head scratching I discovered that Install Manager put all new content into a new folder location:

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

Meanwhile my traditional Studio files have been located at:

    N:\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library

When I subsequently manually installed some new content into C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library I discovered that DAZ Studio couldn't find them. It wasn't until I relocated that new content into N:\DAZ 3D\Studio\My Library that they showed in DAZ Studio.

Per usual DAZ Studio has a baffling content folder structure that's made into a hall of mirrors by Studio's distortion of that folder structure.

Well, I wouldn't judge DIM based on what happens when there's something wrong with the system. I've been using it since right from the start, two years ago, and it's mostly a smooth run. I especially like that I get presented with the updates for products when they come out, without having to search the forum or other places for it.
Though, there IS one major nusiance with the DIM installer, which is that it installs everything as it is delivered in the ZIP file. I install my Rendo and Hivewire content manually, and have a chance there to clean up the various "content" folder versions each zip has. Not as much with DIM installation, as it preserves the original pathes.
I've actually thought about doing the download management by DIM, and uncheck the "Install after Download" for manual installation, and then clean up my library.

As for the content not found installation issues, you need to tell DIM where to install the content if you don't use the "standard" installation path of DS.

Actually the instal path for content makes sense. It installs the content in a place where ANY user account can get to it, public folders. Can you imagine what would happen if you had 3 users in your house sharing a computer and all had separate log ins? You'd have content installed 3 times if you put it in an account specific play like my documents.Talk about a hard drive sucking nightmare.

And you could have gone in and told it where you wanted to download the cotent simply by changing the default path under settings. Takes less than 5 minutes to do.

Whenever I get a 'download failed' message on DIM I just manually download it to the DIM download folder and refresh. It'll move it from 'download' to 'install' and let you install it with all the lovely metadata intact.

Of course, this only works when it's a quirk of the DIM, not a server problem :D

Fair enough everyone. Maybe a little RTFM would have saved me this weeping and gnashing of teeth. Thanks again DAZ for your terrific products! :-)

  • I know this is an old Post but none of these helped me. Putting this here in case someone Googled this.

My Install Manager was an older version. In the DIM there is a log file (you can access it from  DIM itself) - which when opened said "file guid does not match". the downloads WERE getting done succesffully but getting removed.

As soon as I upgraded my DIM to the latest version - that error went away and I was able to install/upgrade without any issues. This was my fix

Thank you for this tip. This has saved me hours of frustration.
