DS 4.20.x is out. Do we need to download the Genesis* starters too? Or any of the other plugins?

    Looks to be just Daz Studio and the Adobe 3D Bridge at the moment..

    All bundled or Daz own-brand plug-ins (e.g. Measure Metrics) need updating for new versions; PA plug-ins generally don't.

    This is the one down-side for doing things manually as DIM pulls in updated files.

    How to revert to the version I'm using now if I update but find problems with the new version?

    I usually update and then just hope the problems will be fixed but it is now over a year since I tried an update.

    There are updates to the starter essentials, but no info in the Readme about what changed.

    You would use the backup installers you kept for that purpose.

    I Don't know if the DIM updates have anything to do with 4.20 or not.

    That's okay, downloads went fast ;-) Hopefully whatever was fixed was good.
