Modifying corridor...urgently!
Hi everybody!
I swear, I don't use the word "urgent" very often, but this time I have to! :(
I've to prepare a background for a short movie: the interior of a spaceship, and my "modeler" just dumped me leaving me in serious troubles....
The first, and probably most complex part of the work I have to urgently do is to prepare a corridor in order to compose it with the footage of the walking actor.
I've bought this model http://www.daz3d.com/a-deck that I'll use also for other room of the spaceship, but the corridor is too short!
Could you give me a suggestion about how to duplicate only that part?
I've used Bryce for a long, so I'm not completely new to 3D, but I'm new with DazStudio and I couldn't shortly to find the way....
the "A-deck" is a "set", and it's composed by different nodes. First problem: I couldn't duplicate just a subnode (the corridor "pipe") but I had to duplicate the whole structure!. Ok, I've hidden what not needed and tryied to do the same but....second problem: the floor of the corridor doesn't belong to the node of the pipe but it belongs to the floor of the deck! How do I split it?
Help please!!
Thanks ;)
Alex

I don't have the model in question so I'm not quite sure what the problem is with the floor of the duplicate corridor sections. Hopefully somebody else will be able to answer, but is it possible you can simply stretch the corridor instead of duplicating it? Obviously this will distort the textures, but given the nature of the object perhaps it might not be obvious or a problem. (for example it will have a large oval table instead of small round table, etc.) If you have something like a wall-mounted display panel, you could perhaps easily modify that texture by just copying that part, making it narrow (twice as narrow for double the length, etc) it and pasting it or similar variations a few times in a row to cover the original stretched version.
maybe I could stretch the floor, but in this way I stretch the whole floor of the deck! I should maybe first to split it between corridor side and deck side, but once again I don't know how to do it.... :(
Rather than stretching the floor, make yourself a small corridor prop.
First method:
There are ways to do this in poser, so I'm pretty sure it can be done in DS, I just don't know how.
Second Method:
Take the .obj into a modelling program and delete everything except the corridor. If you're careful you shouldn't lose the UV mapping.
Second Method, Variant
Since you're not modelling, but just ripping parts out wholesale, you could also use UV mapper to delete the unwanted parts. This can be very easy if the original has well named groups and materials. This is the method I use.
If you have any other Kibarreto spaceship models (maybe the ground bases too, but I'm not sure) most have the same shaped corridors.
