I have a plane primitive in my scene and need to apply a checker board tile surface to it May be with ot without seams. .
How can I do that? Manual gives no response.

For Iray or 3Delight? Either way, you will need to use Shader Mixer (or possibly Builder for 3Delight) and use a UV tiler brick to provide the values from which the pattern is derived.
Try:- (if using Iray render)
Content Library > Shader Presets > Iray > Nvidia MDL Examples > "Pattern Checker Glossy"
Apply that material and (in the surfaces tab) change the scaling as needed. (In the viewport, you will either need to enable "Nvidia Iray" or make a render to see texture)
Thank you for the responses. Will see if I can find it. Seems less easy than I hoped it would be. I have to deal with the IRay engine I am afraid. I tried to render somne real scenes but got quizzy about the aperture settings to use. I wante to make a render of an exact tile floor to see how blur develops away from focal point.
