Unable to find textures

I’ll be honest and say my DAZ 3D library has been a bit of a mess, split across 2 locations, and all a bit rubbish really. I’m currently trying to create some kind of order out of the chaos, but I’m still getting issue when loading some objects where it is unable to find textures.

EG. Spirit of Punk Airship.

If I go into Edit > Preferences > Content > Content Directory Manager the only location for my DAZ Studio Formats is:

E:\<my user name> \Documents\DAZ 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library

Which is correct.

I try to open the Airship object and it says it can’t find:

/data/Ravnheart/Spirit of Punk Airship/Spirit of Punk Airship/UV Sets/Ravnheart/Base/default.dsf
/Runtime/Textures/Ravnheart/Airship/airship_hull_clean.jpg
/Runtime/Textures/Ravnheart/Airship/Rig1-Main-clean.jpg
/Runtime/Textures/Ravnheart/Airship/Rig1-Normal-clean.jpg
/Runtime/Textures/Ravnheart/Airship/Rig2-Main-clean.jpg
/Runtime/Textures/Ravnheart/Airship/Rig2-Normal-clean.jpg

It’s stopped asking me to try and locate them.

If I then go into the Airship > Materials > Iray and try to apply the materials to the untextured model, same message.

If I right click the materials and select Browse to file location, them open Airship-iray.duf in a text editor, the Json held in there has paths like:

"url" : "/Runtime/Textures/Ravnheart/Airship/airship_hull_clean.jpg",
"label" : "airship_hull_clean.jpg"

And

"url" : "/Runtime/Textures/Ravnheart/Airship/Rig1-Normal-clean.jpg",
"label" : "Rig1-Normal-clean.jpg"

I then browse to the E:\<my user name> \Documents\DAZ 3D\Applications\Data\DAZ 3D\My DAZ 3D Library\Runtime\Textures\Ravnheart\Airship there are all the .jpgs.

What am I missing?

Thanks.

Comments

  • I only have iray materials, so I don't think so.

  • This might be a clue to the issue. I'm running on Windows 10.

    If I go into my AppData folder (C:\Users\<my user name>\AppData\Roaming\DAZ 3D\Studio4 there is a ContentDirectoryManager.dsx file that just contains the line:

    <ContentDirectoryManager VERSION="1.0"/>

    If I go into Edit > Preferences > Content > Content Directory Manager and make any changes and Apply / Accept them, the ContentDirectoryManager.dsx gets date stamped as if it's been updated, but there are never any actual changes to the file. IE. it still only contains the 1 line. I would try manually editing this file, but I'm not sure of the format of the XML.

    Any ideas please?

    Oh yeah, I tried running DS as admin, but it won't let you.

    How do you install content, using DAZ Install Manager (DIM), DAZ Central, manual installation or do you log in to DS and let DAZ Connect install content?

  • DAZ Install Manager.

    Well if you don't have the required product installed it's normal you have missing files.

    Ok - Do you log in to DS?
    What are your start up settings in DS Preferences? (see attachment)

    How are your content libraries specified in Content Directory Manager? (see attachments)

  • This are screen shots of my settings.

    I also just tried Resetting the content DB and reimporting the meta data. Same issue.

    Yeah. Sorry everybody. I was having a thick day.... nothing new there then. I'd installed the iray package without installing the base package. D'oh. All sorted now.

    Ok, so you are logging in to DS... Remove the checkmark from "Automatically login with remembered credentials".

    Logging in to DS is only needed for installing content within DS, with DAZ Connect and if that is what the user wants, then it is useless to use the other installation methods as DAZ Connect installations are overriding all other installation methods - DAZ Connect also uses a completely different location for installing content, which means the content is installed twice, taking twice the space (if also installed with DIM, DAZ Central or manually)
