Do You Remember When?

They would play a popular song over and over and over on the radio or MTV (for us oldies) to the point that the mere hint of the opening chords would give you a nervous tic and send you into a screaming rush to turn the channel? You actually liked it the first 100 times but the repetitiveness killed all joy of it? (To this day I cannot listen to Boys of Summer, Open Arms, or Born in the USA)
That's pretty much where I am with the End of Summer hair. Everyone, their brother, and their dogs are using that hair in promos/ art work/ etc It is ALL over the place to the point my brain automatically shuts down and refuses to buy something if its in a promo and I delete the image from my Deviant art messages immediately. I also uninstalled it from my runtime.
So that got me thinking. Is there anything you guys have purchased that just got the joy killed for you by over saturation/ abuse?
Comments
Almost everything MTV played ended up OVER played. I had it from the beginning, "Video Killed the Radio Star!" lol "We Got the Beat" by the Go-Go's would probably strike fear in my heart if I were to hear it again.
I do know what you mean about that hairstyle. It's pretty, but I couldn't believe how many venders and artists were using it when I first noted it popping up in renders. For me, it's poses. Especially the ones that DAZ puts in the bundles so that EVERYONE has the same poses and there is always a favorite or two that I see everywhere which means that, even if I loved it, I can't use it. Ever. lol
I'm trying not to use Jewell hair too much in my own work because I can see that suffering from overkill as I'm quite fond of it. Since purchasing it, I've noticed a lot of vendors seem to like it too.
The one that makes me think 'What, AGAIN?' is a female character shape with an enormously big butt morph, who admittedly doesn't show up much in promotional images but makes many thong-clad appearances in the user galleries. My next thought is usually 'Oh... sit on it, woman!' :)
i agree on both counts. I remember MTV well and how over played some of my fav songs were. So many great rock power ballads were just ruined for me by the over saturation.
It's had for me with content, I have a handful of "go to" items that work best and it's hard to make the effort to use other products that just don't work or look as well as the others, I use genesis 1 and 2 equally and they almost always have heels on. These are my "go to" pair http://www.daz3d.com/sexy-platform-sandals for my genesis figure and these are my "go to" pair for genesis 2 http://www.daz3d.com/platform-pumps-3-for-genesis-2-female-s
For hair, I used to use http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/kouros-hair/89981/ all the time and now find myself using http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/eternal-kyra-hair/98852/ more than I should, LOL. I like End of Summer hair, but I have to add a ton of smoothing to get rid of the mesh kinks in it. I also wish it had a mirrored version.
Leaving radio behind, I'm sure there are certain TV commercials that send one channel flipping. Ghaaa, noooo, not agaiiin!!!
Or sitcom plots. Sigh, here we go, jumping the shark again.
Or movie plots. How many different ways can two people exchange bodies.
Let's face it, there is nothing new under the Sun and if one is over 50, one has seen it all twice. Imagine living to 100 and planted in front of a TV unable to find the strength to press the button on the remote control. Although I guess we could be thankful for senility. I know I am. Watched a movie last night and about an hour into it it started to seem familiar then I remembered, "oh yeah, I saw that at the theater when it came out a year ago" :-S
The number of things described as sexy or sensual especially when its in the title. It wont stop me from buying something I really like the look of, but otherwise I'm sexied out.
In terms of things I've stopped using after over indulging Sultry Hair. It was my go to hair for everything since it was indeterminately old-fashioned, but I was using it for everybody.
I remember MTV overdoing their playlist. I remember, and still actually like the song, from Duran Duran, Hungry like the Wolf. Of course I would! lmao
PS. I can't find that End of Summer Hair in the store. Did DAZ or goldtassel take it down?

No wonder, it was one I have too so the store hid it from me! lol I won't be using it for a while then! Thanks! :-)
And now I'm gonna give all the old-timers the twitches:
Anton's Full and Feathered Hair.
Hehe.
There was this one updo from Renderosity witih super pointy, drapey bits on it. It looked awesome, but everyone was using it for a while, so I never bought it. I'm still looking for the name.
Reagan Hair! That's it!
To this day I hesitate on buying a hair or clothing set that looks "too unique." I want people to notice the content of my promo, not the hair the character has, even if that hair is fabulous; and if it is a keynote piece to the render it's in, it's more likely to end up with a lot of people using it right after it comes out, also diminishing that uniqueness.
Who am I kidding. I will use Julius and Zior in everything forever.
Conerning MTV, don't forget that a) Back in those days they played videos all day long; and b) If you listen to a radio station all day, they will generally play the most popular songs of the day every hour or so as well
Back when MTV started the record companies were just getting into video as a marketing gimmick; about three years in they decided they wanted real money from Viacom (MTV) for the right to play the videos.
Early on, MTV ran three 'rotation' levels. High rotation usually played once every 4-hour segment with the possible exception of the 12:00 AM thru 8:00 AM segments. Medium tended to play at least three times in a 24 hour window. And low rotation was around once per day - and many of them got aired in that Midnight to 8:00 AM area. (I watched a LOT of MTV - the hours I worked, MTV was about the only 'worthwhile' programming).
Greetings,
The beach scene for the cyclorama. Hongyu's Bikini.
Yes, End of Summer Hair was VERY much anticipated before it came out (it showed up on a model in advance) and pounced on by everybody when it came out; use a bit of subD on it, and it smooths out nicely, IIRC. For me, it's still better than the Elite Ponytail. When folks put up new characters using the Elite Ponytail, for some reason they just looked like V5, unmorphed. I had a shocking amount of trouble seeing past the ponytail to the subtle differences of each new character.
There are also some monsters that get overused, and because they're very unusual (as monsters have to be) people notice, and some people are jerks about it. :(
There's also stuff I vastly overuse, like Wren hair and Danae's Dublin skin.
Oh, and Valandar: I'd come back at you with 'Sapphire Fox' hair. I've seen it everywhere...and it's not even available anymore. :) Despite it's popularity, that'd be one to re-do for the new generation...it was nice.

Funny you should mention Julius hair. I bought that specifically for a male character i have in a story I'm working on. Finding decent semi wavy hair is harder than it looks. That and Rose curls are the only 2 decent ones I found that weren't super curly.
I think the thing with the End of Summer hair hurts my brain most because there are thousands of hairstyles out there. So to keep seeing the same one just feels weird to me.
