I would also like to know. Especially, should people install this update who intend to stay on DS 4.15 / 16 for a bit longer - like, is it for use with 4.20?
This ^^^
My guess is this update must be for a new feature to be integrated and released soon in DAZ Studio but what?
anyone download? break anything if you did?
I beleive there was an update planned as the thin-film chnage caused problems with the default materials (so yes, it may be for the Iray version in 4.20.x.x+) - I don't, however, know if that is the reason for or sole effect of this update.
I did download & it renders fine but I don't do a lot of renders due to CPU rendering, so my tests have no thoroughness to them.
No. It seems completely benign.
It might REALLY help A LOT if Daz would also use the the "Resolved Issues" section in the readme file. That section seems to be there for a reason....
Agreed they didn't do it for ages then not long ago they started again, and now they've stopped again. Helps a lot if you have a 1GB file showing as updated in DIM to download and you see all that was updated was the Metadata (I don't use Smart Content).
I’m afraid of updating anything now because I’m still on DS 4.14 beta. I’m leery of buying new content too now since I often don’t get to test it within 30 days. I wish the site would mention backwards compatibility on new products, like which is the oldest version of DS it’s compatible with.
I believe the update changed the 'tear' surface setting to adapt it to 4.20's altered surface settings (see Richard's point above) - something about needing much higher numbers and/or using newly available settings (can't quite remember the specifics). Don't know if it had any other changes.
