content management on the fritz

Never know what to expect..

Content management is messed again.

Content management installs on my C:\ drive an SSD. and my daz content is in

H:/user/document/public/daz3d/mylibrary.

I cannot get the daz3d content or smart content to import metadata. It appears to work, but just runs through and nothing has happened.

I went into install manager selected all products and it works similarly, but nothing is happening.

The files are there installed in the mylibrary and they show up in the DIM as installed.

I am using Daz3d - 4.7 version.

My thinking is the content management thingy is brokeeee.

I would appreciate any suggestions

I have done this before and it worked, but no longer works:
Try doing a “Scan Known Directories For Files”—, Export User Data, then Reset the database, then Re-Import Metadata.

The log file indicates error in loading metadata as well.

Can you see the content in the Content Library pane under DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats?

All the downloaded files are in my download folder as they were downloaded in zip format.
There are 500 content item zipped files in this folder.

There are large number of items that are not there in the /DAZ 3D/Mylibrary
The DAZ 3D/My Poser folders appears to have all relevant content items.

    Here are my folders:

    Users/Public/Documents/DAZ 3D/My Library

    Users/Public/Documents/DAZ 3D/My Poser

I have thought it may be I should have very specific folder tree.

I am frustrated enough with this I am willing to start over.

If there is a best install procedure and folders just let me know.

Is the problem the Content Management System (Smart Content, products and categories) or is it seeing the content at all in DS?

Try right-clicking on DAZ Studio Formats and on Poser Formats, select the Add ... Directory in each case, and select H:/user/document/public/daz3d/mylibrary (if I understand you that the files are not visible there - I'm afraid your post isn't very clear).

    OK...

I went into the DIM and deleted the complete installation of all the content items. The downloaded files are still on my computer in a downloads folder. I hate having to download all those files again...is there a way to access and install from the folder?

So, effectively I am starting over as best I can tell. Not sure about the content management software.

I did not use the default folders previously, which may have been part of the problem.

I will not proceed to do an all new installation of daz3d and poser content. I would appreciate a best folder arrangement for installation of the content and any relevant information. I have had problems with the DIM since January. I am not blaming anyone... I just want to resolve this and move on. It doesn't make sense to keep having problems getting content to display properly in the DAZ3d, Carrara and other applications.

If the DIM is the problem then I'll do direct installs.

Look at the address line for where my files are located. I have uninstalled and all the folders have been removed or deleted from my complete install. Also the downloads folder has nothing in it as well. I did make a backup of that folder before I uninstalled all the content.

The content management software is located on my C: drive I could not install it on the H: drive with Daz3d programs and data files. As I recall there is no way to do that. If that is possible now guess I can uninstall and reinstall Daz3d studio as well.

If you want to install software to your H: drive, in DIM go to Settings > Installation and set the paths for 32-bit software and 64-bit software before installing DAZ Studio. Your preferences will still be saved to the C: drive unless Windows is installing application data elsewhere.

Unless you are using Carrara 8.5 or ZoneAlarm security software, I would recommend installing PostgreSQL CMS -- it is faster and more reliable than the old Valentina CMS.

If you uninstall your content in DIM (which you can still do even if you've deleted the files already) then you can reinstall to a new location from the files already in your downloads folder. You do not need to re-download.

I am more interested to use Carrara 8.5 pro than Daz3d. However, it seems Daz studio is the big daddy application. So, I have to get the Studio accessing the content item files correctly first.

When I puchase from the daz shop the files vary by type. I understand from postings I have read on Carrara forums that Poser files seem to work best with Carrara in some instances.

Then again there is the discussion about the DSON importer thing that adds to the confusion.

I have been downloading and installing the entire content items files from the shop into the
DAZ 3D/My library folder. This may be my problem, because I haven't done separate installs of poser or poserCF files. Since I don't use poser this all new to me.

Should I be doing a separate install of poser files that are included with the downloaded files into a different folder, or sub-folder of the My Library folder? If this must be done in some special way I don't know about it.

When I click on the content management in Daz3d Studio I do see a folder tree for Studio and one for Poser.

Here is popup for content management directory... Also, there may be something in the Preferences I am not aware to do. I notice in General some information about Temporary files, DSON cache files as well.

Are you installing with DIM or manually? If you set the download filters in DIM to the software you use, it will offer downloads for just the files you need.

You need to have "My Library" listed under "Poser formats" as well -- a lot of content only comes in Poser formats or Poser formats with sidecar files.

I just downloaded and re-installed content items.. those files with poser and poserCF I did not install. I left off installing them until I have a better understanding.

This is what my current DAZ 3D folder contains...

Users\public\documents\DAZ 3D\Downloads\ This folder contains the zipped files from Daz3D Product Library from my account..

Users\public\documents\DAZ 3D\My Library\ This folder appears to contain Daz 3D installed folders and files.

Users\public\documents\DAZ 3D\My Poser\ This folder appears to contain Poser installed files.

If I go back into the DIM and install the PS and PoserCF files will they automatically install in the My Library folder?

These attachments you need to view the address line at the top for location.

On the Settings > Downloads page, uncheck any software you don't use, then it won't offer things you don't need for download.

On the Settings > Installation pane, you don't need a Bryce location -- Bryce and Carrara format content gets installed to subfolders of the application folder, and ignore the path for installing DS/Poser format content.

Is there a reason you're installing the Poser-format content to a different location? Normally you would use the same path, and the Poser-format items get installed inside the Runtime folder in that path. Also, DS-format content sometimes includes Poser format files as well, not to mention textures, so they need that location to be designated as a Poser -format content folder as well.

OK... I will remove the Bryce location in DMI.

I just installed all the poser and PoserCF in the My Library.

Are you saying I don't need the folder DAZ 3D/My Poser?

No, you can put them in the same content folder as the DS-format files, but you don't need the PoserCF's if you don't use the DSON Importer for Poser, you don't need the Legacy versions if you don't use any versions of DS below 4.5. I strongly recommend changing your download filters to only the software you actually use, so you won't have multiple versions of the same content when you only need one version.

I understand frequently the poser files are the best to use in Carrara 8.5.

It makes sense not to install what I do not need or use. I can go with that.

I have to clean all this up once and for all. It is impossible to work with as it is.

I have a numerous content items for Hexagon, Bryce, Carrara and Daz3d studio content

All the content items, except for a few 3rd party non-daz3d shop items are in the content account in my Dashboard. In other words, I am not concerned I will be losing any content files.

Carrara, Bryce and Hexagon appear to maintain content in the program files and Daz3d studio is in the My Library folders I mention above.

    I have now un-installed Daz3d 4.7 studio and Carrara 8.5 pro.

These programs may have been messed from the start, because I first tried to install from the DIM.
That was a mistake. I installed from the zipped file and ran as administrator and they seemed to install OK. Yet, I just found two installs of Carrara 8.5 in the 64bit Program Files. I was using a desktop shortcut everytime. So problems with 2 installs may just be in my mind.

    When I came over to Daz3d I acquired the Carrara 8.5 pro, Hexagon,Bryce and Daz3D studio 4.7.

I downloaded the DIM, and have done what people have shared on the forums about my content problems. It is beyond me, why Daz doesn't have a standard database configuration.

Setting up the DIM for Bryce content, Carrara 8.5 content, and Daz3d are totally unrelated as I can tell. Then to top it off you have Poser, PoserCF, legacy, and other file types, which further confuse things.

I have character content items for 4.0 and 4.2, but I've not been able to find them. I made sure the Content Management services was working in Task Manager services as well.

The Carrara content and smart content would not load at all yesterday. I uninstalled and reinstalled Carrara. I tried the DIM for install of Carrara and it would not install it. Yes, it was showing up but when there is no uninstaller showing in the Control panel it isn't properly installed. I also was receiving a not responding message in the upper left corner.

I removed or uninstalled everything Carrara and then reinstalled from the setup file run as admin. Carrara appeared to install and it appeared to work after I waited for what seemed like forever. It finally presented the content items and smart content items.

Then I went back over to Daz studio to try to access other content, but the content and smart content is gone. I tried the following... Export User Data, then Reset the database, then Re-Import Metadata.
The application appeared to work, but when I tried to access content or smart content... still nothing there.

If the content management application is a problem is there a way to trouble shoot it or reinstall it or something?.

IMO, Daz should just have one database for all their applications and quit messing around.

I am particularly annoyed, because since January I have had database problems. I kept thinking I would finally resolve the issues, so I spent the past two days trying to resolves what should be simple enough. This is not all I do and I certainly have spent far too much time trying to get the issues straight to use the applications, Carrara 8.5 and Daz3d studio. There is too much interdependency between the two, so they both have to work properly...at least the content items have to be available in each.

I have purchased a considerable amount of content items over the past couple months. Yes, I got ahead of myself, but there were content items on sale I felt I would need for planned projects. The problem is... I didn't think I would continue to have problems like this. I have not been able to get moving on any projects I planned with these applications.

I have been using Reallusion Iclone for over four years, 3DXchange, Sony Vegas video and audio applications, the Adobe Creative cloud pack and a number of other applications. I am not a newb. I have pretty well reached a point to just quit Daz applications. I honestly cannot believe that a mature company has so many issues, which aren't unique to me from what I read on the forums.

There have been some very diligent persons who tried to help me, and I appreciate all their efforts. Yet, like on most forums the information can be helpful from other users, but I don't expect other users to be technical writers or have deep level skills to really resolve some issues.

Company support is slow and there is problem for me. I do my best to resolve my own issues, because I don't have time to wait around on someone else.

I sure as heck don't know why I could not get Carrara 8.5 pro to install using the DIM. The document I read made it sound so simple and a complete no-brainer. Yet, it would not install properly through the DIM. You could say I missed something somewhere I should have done first. I can understand that, but there is no excuse for users having to ferret it out.

I read a posting that indicated the content management services had to been enabled in services in task manager. This is a problem, because most of us are pretty well squeezed for memory all the time with the renders and all. So, yes... we do turn off services to enable faster responses in the applications. My services was enabled, but I can sure as heck see where people would have problems if services was not working.

Some support person that is at a higher level needs to take the time to create comprehensive documents and ancillary video screencasts for articulating very carefully all considerations for a competent database management using daz3d applications. I am not talking about exporting or importing any content from non-daz applications. I am talking about the internal issues with Daz3d applications and the competent access to respective content and data items.

I would appreciate if other users would refrain from ragging on me, about their beloved daz. I am not angry writing this.. I am concerned, because I have made considerable effort to work through these issues, which persist.

I am still tweaking away. I just found this contentmanagementserver.exe. I double clicked it, then went into Daz3d Studio and then re-imported Metadata. The tool appeared to work as it took a couple minutes to do it's work. Now all the content library and Smart Content appears. I thought if the dazcontentmangement services was enable to start on boot up then the server was turned on as well. I'm not saying this is fixed, because this isn't the first time I got it working and then "quack" it quit again. Too soon, now the smart content for studio is gone again.

    The error log is huge.

Yes, I see the dzvalentinaobjectdatabase.cpp. I have to run the valentina in order to run Carrara 8.5 pro. I can go to the postgre database, but I have to run beta 8.5 carrara Pro to use it.
If the valentina is just not workable I may have to go to the beta.
    .

This paragraph precedes the error messages:.

It isn't at all clear whether your issues are the content management service or plain content installation. Can you access and load your content directly, not using the database - the Content Library pane in DAZ Studio, under Poser Formats and DAZ Studio Formats, for example?

I uninstalled the Carrara 8.5 pro from my system. I hope this will fix the problems for now.

I also installed the new Daz Studio Beta, since so many people have mentioned the valentina is such a problem. The Carrara required Valentina at this time. The Carrara 8.5 beta is supposed to work with the PostgreSQL. There is some kind of problem for me to download the Carrara 8.5 pro beta from the store. The cart keeps coming up at $199 and I know if the total isn't zero it will charge my CC for $199.

Exhausting. I too have done everything on every forum I can find and still can't get my newly purchased content to work. I give up. I've wasted two days of life typing and retyping paths. Enough I quit.

    I understand your frustration...

What programs are you trying to use?

What is your experience with animation?

There may be some simple explanations, if you are consenting

When troubleshooting content install problems DO NOT USE SMART CONTENT. The Content Library tab/pane will always show properly installed content to properly mapped libraries.
