OpenGL Viewport performance, lag and slow performance

I just have a general question about everyones Viewport performance

I had upgraded to a 2990WX Thread ripper from a 1950X Thread ripper a few months ago, along with some ram, that i think is bad, as i had to keep it at default base speed for issues with crashing

but at this point, old scenes i have that are loaded with models that my previous set up had No problem handling
are now lagging heavily

you can feel it takes a whole second or so to be able to grip the view cube to move around when alot of models are on scene visible
even loading in a scenery will start to cause the viewport to behave really laggy and its starting to effect my enjoyment of doing my work

so i'm asking what generally impacts Viewport performance as far as hardware

I know when you start loading a scene heavy with scene props and character models with High Subdivision
basically just alot in a scene, there tends to be issues with performance looking around the screen, moving models, just everything moves more slowly

But on the hardware side of things, what "upgrades" caused my performance to dramatically reduce?
was it my lower clock speed From 3.4Ghz base to 3.0Ghz base? My change from an AMD GPU to a NVIDIA?
My more ram that is stuck at a slower speed? 32G to 64G

So i can start to canister my options get my performance back
or if there is any advice you guys have beyond that

Your GPU should be handling the heavy lifting in the OpenGL viewport.  I can't remember where to check the settings for that though.  Might be worth re-installing your GPU driver, or updating it if NVIDIA is done with whatever problem they were having.  Maybe someone else will come by and tell us both where to check that setting.

  • Edit>Preferences>Interface tab has the settings that affect Viewport performance, among others.

  • because of me using Reality Plugin, before the fixes where figured out

i had kept my AMD GPU in the system thinkign that was allowing Reality to continue to function

Since i have taken it out, i have use DDU to uninstall all the AMD drivers, but i'm not to sure if that caused any issues beyond that
but using the Nvidia 3060Ti i have, i had noticed the reduction in preformance in OpenGL

I only really noticed how Bad the preformance is recently after loading up Really old scenes that where heavy in character models and scenery that i remember still being able to manage the scene with out a whole second or two of lag before i can even click on anything

hell, one scene i had like 16 character models half of them on SubD level 2
i over ran my Vram i belive because the scene was having issues displaying some of the character models with all of them on at once
only then was i having this level of preformance on my AMD

  • hmm.. i turned the Texture Resources to Preformance

turned off hardware AA and the pixel buffer was already off

but doing that, improved preformance Untill the other models are on screen, then it starts to studder and lag

it isn't severe enough to say its an issue

i can deal with it, its just annoying that my 'upgrades" to my rig has made Daz run worse then i am use to

It may be worth checking in the NVIDIA control panel to see that it is set to allow individual applications to control behavior.  I think there may also be settings in windows itself that control hardware acceleration.  Again, I'm not quite sure.

Are you using texture shaded or Iray preview?

    Texture Shaded, again OpenGL
