Hoping the braintrust here can point me to a decent Frigate or Destoyer from the WW1/WW2 era. I found some on one site but was not impressed enough to buy them. Looked here on Daz and didn't turn anything up.
Anyone have some pointers?
Thanks!

Not sure where you have checked; but there are some nice models on HUM3D and on Turbosquid. However, they are very expensive
I will look on those sites. Really hoping to stay affordable as it's for likely a single render.
Quite a few WW2 ships at Rendo. Some in poser format, but that usually works in DS

also check out vanishing points store

I think I found what I can use on Vanishing Point. I never knew about them before and I've been at this a while LOL Will check there more often for stuff.
Thanks!
I have the vanishing point USS Tennessee and it works well in Daz Studio.
I just picked up the Hood. I think that cruiser will do everything I need for this image. That render looks nice.
HMS Hood was a Battlecruiser, ie the same size as a Battleship, and therefore far bigger than a frigate or a destroyer, even cruisers would look small next to it. However if you render it from a distance with no other ships around it to give off the scale, then non military types will likely not see a difference.
If you can work with blender models, ThomasBeerens has quite a few -alas no longer free- models available at sketchfab.

Images I made with some of them can be seen in my gallery: https://www.daz3d.com/gallery/user/6013908598915072#gallery=album839466
post edited as models are no longer free....
Those are awesome. Saved the site. Now to learn Blender :)
I didn't. Thanks for pointing it out. I went ahead and picked up the Snowberry. A corvette but fits the smaller ship feel I was going for (I think) on this image.
Ouch, it appears ThomasBeereens models are no longer free.....
That is a nice collection of ships. For a minute it looked like he just ripped all the ships from the game World of Warships since that is exactly what it looks like veiwing his page.
TBH given the number of people who did model kits of stuff with aeroplane glue and press out parts as kids and kept going, I am surprised there are not more 3D models of things military, there must be billions of scale models sitting on dressers all over the world for reference.
Probably not an easy transition from scale models to using a modeling app, it wasn't for me. I probably put together over 200 scale models while growing up and still have a few that survived, but that never translated to any skills when I started 3D modeling. Blueprints and technical specs from manufacturers played a bigger role when I started designing aicraft for flightsims.
