Has anyone used both of these? I'm planning some B&W work in a more-or-less comic style, and these seem like the best options. Any opinions? Open to other packages as well.
As Hylas said, Iray is designed for photorealistic renders, and therefore you're kind of working at cross purposes if you try to use it for toony/NPR renders. Also, using something like pwToon or VSS in 3Delight will render much faster than anything you could do in Iray (except for hair, which can sometimes take forever for reasons that I don't know enough about 3DL to guess at).
Comments
There was a good discussion of toon-style shaders a while ago, (wow, time flies) what happened to pwtoon?
I can't comment on either of these products.
But I will say that they are both IRAY products and I don't think it's wise to use the IRAY render engine to mimick hand drawings and cell shading.
IRAY was made for photorealism and you would be working against the engine.
I've used VSS and I like the results.
There's also MSS and LineRender9000, I think they both look promising but they are still on my wishlist so I can't comment.
Why wouldn't Iray mimic hand drawings and cell shading effectively?
Anyway, I bought Sketchy Toon, I'll see how it goes.
