The Parting of the Lips

MelissaGTMelissaGT Posts: 2,611

Hey all! G8 had a "lips part" morph on the posing tab. G8.1 does not have this. Is there an easy way to just get a quick parting of the lips...you know that simple "resting face" lips parted mouth. Using the open/close jaw doesn't work because I don't want to open her jaw. Powerpose I guess is an option, but was hoping for something a bit more intuitive.

I think "funnel" does something similar, if I remember it right?

    Or enable 8.0 expressions.

You can use all the G8 expressions once you remove the dummy files from G8.1 morph folders, that are placed there to disable the use of G8 expressions.

Making the G8 base expressions (and any expressions that are using them) work on G8.1 requires removing dummy/placeholder expressions that are installed to G8.1 morph folders - These dummy/placeholder expression files have no other function than to prevent the base G8 expressions from loading.

    The dummy/placeholder files are located in;

    ...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files)
    ...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Female 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files)
    ...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Base Pose Head\ (255 files)
    ...\Data\DAZ 3D\Genesis 8\Male 8_1\Morphs\Daz 3D\Expressions\ (24 files)

Please make sure you are removing the files from G8.1 morph folders and not G8 morph folders.

Note. If you are logging in to DS and letting DAZ Connect (within DS) to install/update your content, you may have these also in an other location that has "\Data\Cloud\" in it's path

I've done that and I do have G8 expressions, but the lips part morph wasn't under the expressions heading...it was under the mouth sub-section. I'll go through the process again and check, as I'm sure things got dumped back in when the Essentials updated recently in DIM.

    *edit* That worked! Thanks!

Very good to keep handy...every time the Essentials updates, it redownloads the stuff that I need to delete.

What I don't get is why would G8.1 not have a control to part the lips?

Maybe someone thought it wasn't needed as the G8.1 has the new facial rig...

Genesis 8.1 does not have a new rig, it has new pose controls for the rig (and some new morphs I think).

Wait, what is that head split deformer? Is that new? Does it let you split the head from the body in models that don’t have separate morphs?

The headsplit deformer has been there for as long as I've been using DS, which is to say, since fairly early in G8's lifecycle.

How do you use it? Where in DS is it located? I’ve been wanting that for ages.

Can't help you on how to use it, but it's in the Utilities section for G8 Starter Essentials in Smart Content, or Developer Kit under People/Genesis 8 (Male/Female) in Content Library.

If the lower jaw opens enough - the lips part. Try parting lips without lowering your lower jaw - you can't. Upper jaw is immobile. Smiles, grimaces, and other expressions involve other muscles and the lips but as you've seen in truth lips can't pull themselves up or down, just out & in basically. That's what these new FACS in G8.1 are all about.

That is an add-on that provides a way to manipulate the new, FACS, controls - it says nothing about the rigging.

You load the dFormer. When importing a new morph through Morph Loader Pro one of the options available under the morph name is Attenuate By, then dForm, then pick the Head Split dForm - that will use the weight map associated with the dForm to include/exclude vertices. You can create your own weight-mapped dForms for the same function.

I've recently started using Face Control Expansion to part the lips on my G8.1M characters.  Dialing small values into FCE Lips Lower Middle gives me that relaxed mouth/jaw look.  However, I also use Jaw Open at 5% or less to complete the look for my needs.

This was the alternative that I use now that Lips Part is not available on G8.1.
