Suggestions on creating a crater or sink-hole

Anyone know how I could create a hole to look like something has broken it from under the ground? Something like in this promo for the Crytozoic Worm.

I would rather have it in a field or a country road than in a city though. I've seen craters like something landed but nothing that would work for coming from deep within the earth. I want to be able to place a creature inside partially and then fully breaking free.

Thank you for any help or info you can provide.

You can always try working with primitives and rock shaders, render it separately and later mix the images together in Photoshop or Gimp.
Of course, you'd get better results if you model something in Blender or Hexagon, for example.

I haven't decided to dive into blender or hexagon yet. Still working my way through all the tools with Daz. Will keep it in mind but was hoping for something I wouldn't need to create myself. Thanks

Other options including using severe displacement maps or using a D-Former function. Both should do a pretty good job.

Well, the only product that comes remotely close to a hole in the ground is his here:

The grave-related props can be removed, if I understand the product description properly.

Check out antfarm's products. I think Hero's stand might work http://www.daz3d.com/heros-stand
