Some trouble with SY Cracked Creepy Dolls Genesis 8 and 8.1

Okay, picked up SY Cracked Creepy Dolls Genesis 8 and 8.1 today on the $4.99 sale.  One of the things that was interesting about it is that it seems to ship with gens and stuff.... but I can't seem to get that part of it to work.  I apply that onto the figure, and all I get is the same Ken-doll bump down there that it started out with, instead, all it does is change the textures there slightly, in a way that no longer matches up with the rest of the skin patterning.  Doesn't seem to recognize or apply the shaders onto the regular anatomical elements when I attach those and then try to apply the gens materials, it simply looks like it's trying to apply some changed shaders onto where the Ken-doll bump was instead.

Am I missing something?  0o

I don't own it, but looking at What's Included, it looks like it only includes geoshells and materials for the gens.

  • Yeah, when I apply the Wearable version of the gens stuff, it arrives attached to the doll character as a geoshell.  Tried attaching a traditional gens, selecting that gens, and then applying things, but it applies any of those onto the main body instead.  Selected the tradional gens, attached the geoshell to that, if I then try to apply the materials to the anatomical elements, or if I try to apply it directly to the geoshell attached to the anatomical element, no visible changes take place there.  Did this thing break in DS 4.20?

    Hi!

The set comes with materials and geoshells that support the existing G8 gens when combined with the body. So the way to make them work is:

    1. apply gens to figure

    2. select figure

    3. click "SYCCD 01 Skin With Gens"

    4. Click the Cracks Shell Gens 8

This gives you the body, the textures, and the geoshells that support the gens. You always need the body selected when applying them because Daz often requires us to support gens using hierarchical materials instead of mats for the gens themselves now. If you're using 8.1, use the 8.1 presets for geoshells and not the 8 ones. The Top Coat glaze is a weird exception where it actually has a separate preset for the gens, and I think there was a technical reason for this, but it's been long enough since the product release that I don't remember why I did that. Sorry about that!

  • Okay, tried that.  The anatomical elements are not taking on the skin-tones of the rest of the body, and instead remain the original untextured look, but they do wind up with the crackle-layer overlaying them.  Is there a step missing here somewhere?

Are the gens properly parented to the base figure? If you load them without first selecting the base figure, they will be fit to it, but not parented, and they won't be included when applying a(n) hierarchical material preset.

  • Yes, the gens are definitely parented to the character.

Actually, on closer inspection, I see that the various skin elements are being added to the Surfaces of the gens, but in Viewport (at least in Texture Shaded), the gens themselves are still showing a blank light-grey color as if they weren't shadered at all.  Is Geometry > UV Maps being set wrong?  It shows as being set to Default UVs.

Just looked at it in Iray view, and the gens now show bright, milky-white, with the rest of the body showing a relatively darker patterned-grey.

Yeah, it looks like the shaders applied to the gens aren't working correctly.

Are you using the default gens and not a 3rd party one? I ask because with the new 8.1 textures, it's been hit or miss for me getting the 3rd party gens to match the 8.1 skins

So, I did a quick peek....

    1. Make sure that you apply the geoshell with gens to the figure
    2. Next, select the other geoshells, go to Parameters Tab>Shells>Visibility
    3. Switch the gens visibility to off and the underlying texture will be visible

Alright. The character presets work a little different than starting with a blank G8M.

The presets do not load the gens, and when adding them, they do not pick up the body materials, so you must apply the Skin with Gens presets. (Circ vs. Uncir is a morph on the gens). Also, when adding the gens, all the geoshells automatically include them, with the G8MGenitalia_Genitalia surface ON obscuring the surface texture. Only the Cracks Shell needs that surface to be on, all the others' should be OFF.

Now, the Cracks Shell Gens needs to be applied, and the original Cracks Shell removed or hidden. The pattern is a little different in the pubic area, and the two clash a little (you can see a hint of the original un-textured shell over the gens.) The rest of the pattern of cracks is identical, so they reinforce each other to make darker lines. Alternatively, you can just turn off the G8MGenitalia_Genitalia surface on the original Cracks Shell (to hide the untextured part)

If you start with a blank G8M, pick a shape morph, then apply the rest in order, starting with loading the gens, applying the appropriate Skin with Gens, top coat if you want, then Cracks Shell Gens. All will look as expected until you start adding the three other shells (blush, eyes and lips). The G8MGenitalia_Genitalia surface on all three will be set ON, which need to be turned OFF, like with the preset characters.

  • >>Goes into the other attached geoshells in Surfaces... finds a G8MGenetalia_Genitalia surface is listed in there<<  AHA!  laughlaughlaugh >>Turns all those to Opacity 0<<

Okay, now it looks much better.  TYTYTY,

I must add that the above checks were done on the G8 Male, but the same process is needed on the G8 Female if adding the gens.
