DOF not rendering up-close objects

Hello All,
I use DOF (depth of field) fairly regularly, but this is the first time I've run across this problem.
Some background: I have a standard camera setup I use as a basis for each scene.
- Posing camera - Headlamp on so I can see stuff. Used to setup the scene and FOV.
- Render camera - Headlamp off. Parented to Posing Camera, and all movement locked, so I don't accidentally change it's position. All parameters exactly the same as Posing camera except headlamp.
- DOF camera - Same as Render camera, except Focal Distance and F-Stop are adjusted as needed. All lens settings are exactly the same on all three cameras.
So, on this one particular scene, I have some items in the very close foreground, the main focus is on the character some distance away. Focal distance on the DOF camera is 1943.68, FStop is 3.62, so a pretty narrow band of focus. The items in the very near foreground don't render at all in the DOF camera, but do in the other two.
I'm doing some sample renders, but until I can get those in here, does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
Thanks!

Sounds like the items in the foreground are so close that they become so blurry that you can't see them. Maybe try a larger FStop for the DOF?
It doesn't seem like they are, but I'll try your suggestion to see what happens.
Looks like you were right. Thanks very much!
