Hi!

Quick questons for MelissaGT about the Photorealism for Characters video/materia (https://www.daz3d.com/photorealism-for-characters):

  • I noticed there's a section for Celani - do you cover different colours of skin and how to make them look good?
  • Does your skin shader preset work with Uber and the newer PBR skin?

Thanks for making this - this is definitely a skill I'm super interested in getting better at :)

I’m pretty good at realism (although I always enhance realism in post) and found the description of the tutorial interesting thinking maybe I could learn a few more tricks. But then I saw the promos which strangely did not look realistic to me at all except maybe two of them. The skin looked like plaster in some and others looked like characatures. I was never really considering buying this (unless it goes down to over 80% off) but seeing the promos really dissuaded me. Do others think the promos look realistic?

Actually, for me the poses and camera angles were what sold me some realism.

No I don't. And I've seen some of your photo's and PMed you on tips and thought you do a very good job. Hell, you should create your own tutorial.

Hi there! The settings and tutorial for Celani is covered in the article I wrote for Shiba's blog -

    https://thinkdrawart.com/making-skin-pop-with-the-daz-studio-iray-uber-shader-part-1

    https://thinkdrawart.com/making-skin-pop-with-the-daz-studio-iray-uber-shader-part-2

These settings "should" still work with DS 4.20, though I haven't done a ton of testing (I only recently updated to 4.20). They should also work as a good baseline for all skin tones (though I say it's a baseline, so definitely some adjustments might be necessary for fine-tuning.) I'm working on improved settings and will be writing an updated tutorial specific to DS 4.20 that will go up on my DeviantArt profile. The new article will also include how I tweak PBR Skin as well! Here are some quick tweaks I did with Jacqueline 8.1 -

If you have a specific skin you need help with, and I own the character, I'd be happy to check it out. I own most of the Daz core figures...most not all.

This looks so much better than the promos used for the product!

It looks like the promos are screenshots taken during the webinar, so they're from all different attendees who were showing their artwork. A couple are mine (the one of Celani and the one of my custom character with the sword), and the rest are from other folks.
