Do you worry about wear and tear on your system?

Linus Tech Tips did a test on a graphics card that they bought knowing it had spent a couple of years on a mining rig maxed out 24/7. They wanted to see how much the performance had degraded; to everyone's surprise, it was close enough to published specs (although the low end) to  surmise that even after years of torture, it was still good to go. It didn't seem that it wore out at all.

Keep the case (and fans) free of dust, and render on!

Go figure, after I posted this I get an email from the PC place I got my last rig with a bday coupon for 20% off, LOL I spent an hour customizing systems and knowing what I need from experience, will still cost me around 3K. Time to fill out the income tax to see what I am getting back, LOL.

What did I tell you?! It's like magic---except it's not. When you're covered, you're covered. Don't take it for granted, and be kind to the poor suckers who don't know any better.

People say don't overclock, however the 3060 I had gained a lot of performance in its +1000 memory 'mining' configuration whilst still saving 40 watts.  The memory is manufacturered to a higher rating than the 3060 needs.

Likewise the 3090 memory speed can be increased safely when Iray rendering whilst lowering the overall card power usage.

I find that modern day fans will last longer than the card lifespan if they are running silently.  If you can hear them constantly, then their likelyhood to cause you issues ramps up massively.  Its then down to how expensive their bearings are which you likely won't know from normal reviews.

What I'm saying is don't discount considering a memory overclock allowing you to save total board power for the same performance possibly then allowing you to run the fans at lower speeds.

    And then -

one of these  -  bought at Staples

    The MetroVac DataVac Electric Duster

    super  powerful _

That thing is a god send. I love mine. We bought one probably 10 yrs ago and still runs strong and I use it for a lot of things besides cleaning out the computer.

~ yeah , it sure is  _  more peopl 'ought to get hip to these   yes

I had to underclock my CPU it was thermal throttling while rendering and the CPU is liquid-cooled. With 2 fans on the radiator. Other than that no problems.

I do worry about my old system because it's pretty old and it's a mass-produced model from a big box store. I will worry less about the new one because all the components are heavily-built with an eye toward very good thermal performance.

My cooling system has started to leak, I found a puddle. So yes!

Better a puddle than a short!!  Where is it leaking from - the coolant pump, a hose connection?  And how old is it?

    Yes indeed!

Very, very, very fortunately, it's not leaking onto any components, just the bottom of the case. I think it's the line from the pump to the graphics card, probably one of the fittings. I've had it roughly a year and I can now tell from old pictures that It's been leaking at the rate of about 5mm a month (in terms of the level in the resevoir) ever since I had it. It's only recently I noticed. It's about a year old, and well within warranty. The shop is aware of the problem.

I have a theory that it's only happening when it's been on for maybe 12 hours it's doing a render, maybe when the coolant gets hot. It's not leaking all the time.
