Has anyone made a script to convert G8.1 poses to G8 yet?

Like the header says.  I'm not using the Decimated G8s and don't really have any plans to... but then I noticed that one of my all time favorite series of pose sets is being recreated for 8.1 at another site and figured a converter is pretty much inevitible. Has anyone seen one yet?

Do they not work? They've got the same bones, so as long as they aren't hierarchical poses, I would expect a pose for one to work on the other.

  • The facial rig could well cause pose conversion problems if. The pose includes expressions etc. Not something I had really thought about before.

As long as it is just a body pose they should just work, no converter needed.

For expressions that would be very difficult, as it could be moving facial bones that do not exist in 8.0.

The only other reason a converter is needed would be for hierarchical poses, here is it just a matter of replacing the 8.1 with 8 inside the duf files, so a converter should be easy to develop.

The bones are the same, it's the higher-level pose controls that differ. Use Edit>Figure>Bake To Transforms to turn the pose controls into direct bone poses and they should work as far as bones go.

Which is why I was surprised to look around and not see any signs of someone having popped out a quickie convertor.  Can I edit them manually?  Sure.  Do I want to do that kind of grunt work with hundreds of poses in advance on the off-chance I might want to use one?  No way.

No one enjoys grunt work, but hierarchical poses are pretty rare. I have maybe a handful of sets which include some of these amoung the 100s of pose sets I own. The vast majority of poses are straight body poses, and they should work on 8.1 as well as they do for 8.0.

That may be true... but when a description in a store only says 8.1 and there's no return policy, why take the gamble unless there's a fallback plan?  As it is, I'm still using 4.12 and have no intent whatsoever on moving up until I finish with a very long term project I've been working on or there's a new version of DAZ that's 100% guaranteed not to cause any of my existing plug-ins and utilities to go wonky or ker-plat.  I've been there and done that with DS a couple of times now, and had way too many products never come back...
