It's in my cart too. Just not ready to check out yet. Still waiting for DAZ to finish their deal with NVIDIA. There was talk about getting us some good prices on vid card upgrades to run iRay properly. The thing I like this set of tutorials that all the info is on place rather than on multiple forum threads spread out all over the place. I gave up trying to keep up! lol I just look at the pretty renders and go "Ooo and ah and WOW" ;-)~
Dreamlights tutorials are awesome. I own several across multiple programs. I did find it odd to have one released prior to D|S being 100% confirmed as coming out with the iRay build though?
same here I bought some video tutorials and light presets from Dreamlight. But I have one question are the current light presets such as light dome pro-r and DS light pro compatible with Iray?
Regarding the Iray tips and tricks and I think it might be worth it since official tutorials and guides on Iray for daz is pretty scarce on the net at the moment, i'm thinking of getting it to, could give you a great headstart on lighting with Iray.
I have quite a few of Dreamlights tutorials, too, and found them rather... fluctuating in terms of quality, which is why I am asking about this tutorial.
As for Iray being officially confirmed or not - that is another point. There will probably be changes to DS due to bug fixes etc. by the time Iray gets officially released, so I wonder just how much up to date the tutorial will be by then.
I bought it but haven't had a chance to look at it. When I do, I will post a comment here, unless everyone beats me to it. ;).
Entirely depends on your level of experience and exploration with Iray. If you've worked with it a lot, it may not be worth the investment..I bought it, watched most of it and have perhaps gained enough nuggets to justify the sale purchase price for myself. But I was not a stranger to the pbr approach when I started with Iray and I have done a lot of testing and exploring. The bits I found most useful had more to do with Val's extensive experience with video production and photography and the real world elements of that, but that's me and kind of what I was looking for in the first place.
Its sort of like being in the passenger seat of a race car and having a pro driver take you along for a test drive. Some will find a lot of it quite illuminating.
I don't have that one yet but I have several other dreamlight tutorials and they are all great products and well worth the money.

I'm wondering how effective it is?
(Mod edit: threads merged)
...and maybe depends on how much DS 4.8 is going to change before it is an official release.
Val just posted a 10 minute teaser on his YouTube Channel:

The Dreamlight products are great as long as DAZ didn't upgrade the Studio program. Unfortunetely I have so many lightning tools from Dreamlight which only works with older DS versions. Updates and Upgrades for new DS-versions is not the strong side of Dreamlight. This is the only reason, why I have decided for me, to buy never again a Dreamlight product.
Exactly. I wont buy any tutorial until there is a official Daz release. Someone will probably put out a updated tutorial.
Greetings,
I found it funny in the YouTube video that he refers to 'cd' as if it were not named anything but that, and was an arbitrary measure. I appreciated that he mentioned that 'kcd' is a thousand times more, at least. I think a brief digression on candela's would have been worthwhile.
Look, Dreamlight's tutorials are decent, as long as you go into them with the right mindset. You're going to watch someone who's relatively good at it, using the tools, and occasionally you'll pick something up from it. Often not what he's specifically teaching. Ignore the casual sexism as a cultural thing, if you run into it. Focus on how he's using the tools. Try to abstract what he's saying; e.g. he'll show you how to set up a two-light scene, but doing that exact thing is less important than the underlying idea of having a fill light to 'fill in the details' that comes from a complementary angle.
I don't find his tutorials worth their stock price, but they're excellent resources at the highly discounted price they often show up at.
I think the Iray thing is a little premature. My reading of the changelog suggests lots of things are going to be different in the released version, so if you can extract the fundamental meaning behind what he's talking about, that'll be good. i.e. If you're looking for the conceptual basis for cooking with Iray, you'll probably find nuggets in there. If you're looking for a recipe, the ingredients will be different when 4.8 goes live. I haven't bought it, and probably won't. I went all in, reading every damn Iray thread when it first landed, and trying to draw in all the information as fast as I could. This means I'm not really the target audience...
I've also found that I'm never learning exactly what he's teaching, but there's often value in them despite that. Check out the YouTube video linked above; it's a pretty decent example. (Although you don't see him drawing on the screen much until the end; he does that constantly in his older videos!)

OK. Unless he's planning on doing a FREE upgrade to new materials and changes he's lost a sale. Sorry DL.. perhaps you jumped too fast.....
I agree here, i got a few of his videos but most are way out of date yet still for sale, sorta bait and switch for a new user using latest versions IMO.
Should take them down if they are focused on DAZ 3.4 etc... DAZ is free most people are going to upgrade.
