Life Imitates Art... or... Art Imitates Life?

So I was sitting in Starbucks today watching people walk by, studying clothing fits, movement etc, all in relation to working in Daz. Then I got to wondering... with all the outfits and hair styles people have made for Daz, do most people get their inspiration from real life things they've seen, or is it mostly what they would like to see in real life?
I can think of many hair styles in Daz that would look great in real life, and some that just wouldn't work at all. I've also looked at a lot of clothing in Daz, mostly for G2F, and thought, "Man that would never fly in real life!!", and some that I thought would be incredible. I've often wondered if anyone has had someone create a real-life outfit based on something they made for Daz? Working in a school district I know there are textile classes where students make outfits from scratch. I've wondered if anyone had a friend make something they created for Daz, and if so, how did it turn out? What kind of things do you have to change for it to be... realistic to wear in the real world (length would be the first and foremost thing I would think of)?
Personally I've often thought it would be pretty awesome to commission someone to make something I saw on Daz, and even more-so for the person who designed it in the first place!
