I'm rendering in 3Delight and sometimes I get this colored 'Firefly' in my scene. My current one they are all over!

Thanks!

You are using Deep Shadow Maps...right?

    Don't.

    Use Raytraced Shadows, instead.

That particular 'bug' has plagued 3Delight (and almost all Renderman compliant renderes) for years. It's something that can be reduced, but not totally eliminated by moving the camera tiny bit or changing lighting. But the only way to completely eliminate it...use ray traced shadows.

Yes...Thank You for your response. Is there a performance hit/gain using ray traced shadows? I have i7 16 gb.

Ray traced shadows are still, often, slower than mapped shadows - but not by as much as they were.

yes, exactly as the others noted. Tho I've never had spots quite like that, I've had other symptoms happen. Often from the settings of lights included with scenes.

With shadow tracing off, it's a function of light hitting the backside of SSS surfaces, and random surfaces glow. Sometimes pure white, not a shader compile glitch either.

Mapped-shadows, I've known of a 'bug', tho I never gave it a chance to rear it's head.

So short and simple. I use ray-trace exclusively, on every single light. Render speed of the other modes is pointless to me. The benefits of running Ray-trace far outweigh the flaws encoded into the other two methods.

As for performance. I always start with Progressive render mode (it's in the render tab On/Off switch). I use that to do spot renders as I set up a scene. Then I'll go for small renders to get the camera angle I want. IF, IF, the final render needs the all out mode, then I'll turn 'Off' the Progressive render mode, and let it run as I sleep (as to not lock me out of using my computer for other things).
