    FRIDAY! :cheese: PAYDAY!

    MEGA NON-COMPLAINT! :ahhh:

PTO made it into this check so it's a whopper! Going to byte the bullet (lol) and get a new laptop from Newegg!

Just Paypal'ed money to NewEgg for this baby:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=34-318-559

It's a refurb, but NewEgg has never let me down - past 3 devices I bought from them (2 tablets and a laptop) were factory refurbished and my laptop has lasted 5 years(!!). :bug:

This should last me ANOTHER five years, with any luck! :cheese:

Downside.. little fun money next week, this took a huge byte (heh) out of this check, fat or not. No strippers for me! *cry* *cry*

This puppy benchmarks over twice as fast as my current laptop, so my music software will scream and DS should perform decently.
The NVidia card doesn't have enough VRAM for iRay (only 2GB) but my freaking display should be qute responsive! :)

Bryce will be nice on this as well. :P

Oh well, hot dogs and cup-o-noodle for a week.. but this is worth it! (suffering for my art lolz)...

    ...cool.

Saving what I can to get that Titan-X GPU. Yeah,350$ more than the 980TI (which was just released), but it should be able to handle 98% of my scenes in video memory (which means less time waiting for a render to complete), so the extra investment will be worth it.

Dayum, dude! That's a freaking supercomputer on a card! :ahhh: :ahhh:

That thing costs more than my laptop!! :bug: :bug: :gulp:

...yep, as much memory as I currently have on my system, but should give me enough "overhead" to keep everything in Video memory for rendering purposes which will mean shorter render times and less stress on the CPU.

Something must have changed with the release of 4.8 as when running render tests in Iray on scenes I've previously rendered, I am now seeing core temperatures reaching 70C whereas in the Beta releases, they rarely broke the mid 60s.

Yep, and more reason for celebration - anti-baby-crusher safety software works, if the gate hits you hard it turns itself off, , so we're going to let the fence run test cycles over the weekend! I sure hope it doesn't fall off the guide rail and catch fire... :ahhh: It "should" turn off before it does... :blank:

One hour until "Escape To Beer"!

I'm willing to bet debug code has been removed, which would make the processing loop tighter and chew more CPU power. Seen that happen with my own code... :bug:

The other laptop I wanted had 4GB VRAM, but since I'n not using iRay, I went "cheap".

    ...was also National Ketchup Day.

The brewery down the street had a special day to day where they released a "ketchup beer". The celebration also included a lot of free food including some killer hot doggies (all naturally made locally that were true "foot longs", Ice cream (also naturally made down in Eugene) which included "honey chocolate chip" (very tasty) and of course a locally made organic ketchup that came in three varieties: Regular, Spicy, and Curry (the latter, best of the bunch). Was so stuffed napped for a while after I got home.

    Good morning everyone! :cheese:

Backing up my backup drive to my secondary backup drive (lol), once that's done I back up the entire laptop to the primary backup drive and call that good.

New lappy scheduled to arrive Tuesday, so next weekend I being the Big File Transfer.. I don't have any in-progress DS or Bryce projects so reinstalling them will be easy.. not sure how to best move content.. will take some experimenting. I don't want to re-download everything, that's for sure!!! :ahhh:

Need to shower and shave, will be going out for Huevos Rancheros for breakfast! OMG so hungry.. argh..

Blew the last of my pittance on a new soundbank for one of my synths.. very light and airy, I need those kind of sounds for "Drifting in twilight". :red:

Then out for beer while this laptop backs up.. should take 3-4 hours.. :blank:

iz about that time for an ice cream break :) waiting for edy's to be mushy.

watch a few sleepy hollow episodes.

    then, get to work.
i think, starship captains should follow the tradition of having a captain's table to share dining with guests.
think i saw it in the ship movie with russell crowe.
