Well the specs are out for the 3090ti, and there are some interesting changes such as power connector and TDP..

On the next gen cards, there is information that the 4090 could likely have a TDP of 600 watts..

Instead of burning that $19xx, you could send it to me.enlighteneddevil

Am I missing something? The TI model doesn't seem to have much actual improvement outside of a brute-force application of more electrical power to provide overclocking. Increases in the number of various render cores seem a bit underwhelming.

Maybe it's a test card so they can get data from the general public to determine how high they can increase TDP on the RTX 4000 series without shotting themselves in the foot. A 600 Watt TDP seems totally unrealistic goal for them to go after though.

So is it this new Hopper GPU that bitcoin miners should be buying instead of the normal consumer ADA RTX 4000 series GPUs?

What I was thinking as well, that Nvidia are seeing how far they can push the TDP of cards, before folks refuse to buy them because of they don't want high power bills.. Will wait and see what the miners go after, when these cards release.. One thing that may make them think twice, is how much space they are likely to take up on a motherboard.. This is due to the fact that the 3090ti will occupy three slots worth of space, due to the massive heatsink..

When I saw the specs I went yeah not much of an upgrade except for increasing ones power bill.. smiley

Just an update on the 3090ti seems one reason for the time it took for the release, the article below suggests as to a possible why..

It seems 4090 cards will require at least 600w. I suspect heavily overclocked cards may draw 850W or more. I wonder how these will be cooled and what pricing will be like?

With the cost of the 3090ti having a MSRP of $1999.. Then we can guesstimate that the 4090 will likely be even more expensive, both in price and ones power consumption..

The price premium increasingly makes the 3080 ti look like a bargain. At least the 3080 ti offers a solid upgrade in every area over the original 3080, becoming basically a 12GB 3090. surprise

Even if it could use 1.21 gigawatts of power, without the flux capacitor it's useless.indecision

...crikey, it will make the A4000 and 5000 look like a good deal, particularly power consumption wise.. 600W would mean at least a 1,000w PSU to power the card and everything else, definitely so with the new Intel CPUs.

  • 600W? Holy Christmas. I mean I live in Wyoming but at that high of power usage I wouldn't have to use a heater in the winter.

In the 1960s a typical 21 inch "roundie" color television used around 500 watts (CONTINUOUSLY, not idle/spike sequences).  Yes, they could be used as heaters, although they did not quite serve as fry pans.  The typical incandescent household lightbulb was 75 watts.indecision  Not unusual for some lights in the house to use 100 watt bults and of course some room lamps used the "small" 3-way bulbs that were about 50-100-150.  The "big" ones went up to 200 or even 250 watts, just for light!  And moths cooked to death flying around them.surprise  Everything was bigger and more power hungry back when we wrote on cave walls.

LOL I am not that young ;) Will be 53 this year so I remember a lot of that. I miss the 3 way bulbs with the touch change on the base. I wish LEDs had that. I replaced all my incandescents with LEDs 4 years ago and so far only replaced 2 of them. Probably faulty ones.

Three-way LED desk lamp -  They're available. I use one as a reading lamp in bed.
