Missing Skin with uber shader

I heard that if you turn phantom off you're skin material won't be invisible when you render it anymore. But I don't know what Phantom is and I don't know where to find it to turn it off. Can anyone help me?

Please don't post the same question in mutliple palces. As I asked in the other thread, are you rendering in 3Delight? Both Iray and 3Delight have "uber" shaders.
I'm rendering in NVIDIA IRAY. Now I recently bought 2 different models and this same issue has been accuring. I've been using Daz for almost 2 years and never came across this problem until now.
OK, so the Phantom stuff is not relvant as that is for the 3delight uber Surface shader, not the Iray Uber Base.
What is happening and exactly which version of Daz Studio do you have (Help>About Daz Studio)?
So no matter what I do with the shaders the problem is still there. If I use another skin material that corrects the issue. But I don't want to have to do that. so I'm wondering if the issue is the creator used something for his skin material that I don't have installed on Daz. Also what does it mean to turn off phantom? I can't find that anywhere? That was what I was mainly asking about. I saw a person mention turning off phantom but he did explain how to do it.
I bought a model applied the skin material which shows up when I'm editing in "texture shaded". I can see the skin material when I'm in "texture shaded" but when I go to preview it in "NVIDIA Iray", the skin material is missing and my model becomes white. I'm using daz studio 4.12 pro.
Phantom is used in solving a different issue with a different shader under a diferent render engine. It is completely irrelevant to your situation.
Ok. could it be that I need to update to the latest daz studio?? and if so will I lose my models and products that I have installed? If I update to daz studio 4.20
There is an issue in that the way iray handles a couple of things has changed. Let'd first figure out what is ahppening and see if it is fixable - I don't think dealing with the Iray changes as well is going to eb fun for you.
I don't think so either and I didn't want to have to update it and risk losing things I have now especially the way Iray handles. I heard there was an issue with rendering in daz studio 4.20. Now the 2 characters I bought recently are both compatable with Genesis 8 and Genesis 8.1. I'm wondering if the new skin material the two artists used isn't compatable with daz 4.12 because I decided to test a genesis 8.1 model I bought awhile back. It also had the same missing skin material when I previewed it in Iray. When I found that same model in the daz store, it said it was compatable for daz 4.20. What do you think? because I'm not sure what to do or where else to look for the problem.
I think you need at least Daz Studio 4.15.x.x for Genesis 8 assets to aply to Genesis 8.1 automatically - with earlier ones 8.1 will not pick up 8 morphs, UV sets and so onm. Also, and I ssupect this is your issue, 4.15.x.x or later is needed for the Iray PBR Skin shader used by some Genesis 8.1 characters. You could try the Public Build version, which would not affect your 4.12 General Release https://www.daz3d.com/daz-studio-beta though if this is your first Public Build you would need tor einstall any non-Daz branded plug-ins and you would need to match the content directory settings up (e.g. using http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/referenceguide/scripting/api_reference/samples/file_io/save_mapped_paths/start ).
Ok. Thank you. where can I get daz studio 4.15.x.x? I looked in the store and didn't see it.
Only the current versions ar available, which is why I suggested trying the Public Build so you can keep your older version. You should also back up the packages for Daz Studio and the plug-ins (assuming you didn't delete them after installation) as insurance.
How do I back up the packages?
You need tio find the zips in the Install Manager Downlaods folder.
and once I find those zip files how do I back them up whats the process. I've never backed up any files before and I'm not much of a computer wiz.
Just copy them to a safe palce. if you want to roll back, copy them back into the Downloads folder and when you start Install manager choose the Work Offline option, then you should be able to isntall the older files from, the Ready To Instal tab. Do make sure you include the application, plug-ins, and ideally the default resources and starter essentials.
Thank you.
