[SOLVED] Prop is invisible in viewport but visible after rendering

I have a freebie prop which is transparent or invisible in the viewport, but renders OK. This makes it hard/impossible to position the prop within a scene. Is there a way to make it visible in the viewport without affecting its appearance after rendering?

Can't check it right now but I'm pretty sure that, under the Parameters tab there is a menu called "Display". Have you had a look at the options in there?

Thanks for the suggestion, but 'Visible in viewport' and 'Visible in render' are both ON. I thnk this is something to do with the props materials - if I apply a solid colour to the surfaces, the prop is visible in both. But that isn't a viable solution to my problem, because the render would now look completely wrong.

Something else I should have mentioned is that the prop's silhouette is visible in the Viewport when the cursor is over it.

A temp solution might be to adjust the surface opacity, until it comes time to render, then dial it back down to waht it was.

Switch the viewport to wireframe view. Can you see it now?

    Thank you - that worked.

Thanks for the suggestion. Is this the Cutout Opacity setting? If so, it was already max'd and reducing it didn't have any effect. But Ascania's dea works so me, so I'm good

Sounds like the item probably has a very high Refraction setting.  That sometimes makes things almost entirely transparent in the OpenGL viewport.  Therew's not much you can do about it other that lowering that setting temporarily and switching it back again at render time, or using the Smooth Shaded Viewport.

What that means is that some surface setting messes with the viewport display. Fairly commonly seen in hair. Try the solid shaded view too.

Also, things like hair disappear in the viewport if there is something like a glass window in front of it (between the camera and the hair).

If the glass is a single layer of geometry (not a solid box) is Thin Walled on?

Not sure as I don't have access to my DAZ PC right now but I always notice that if I have rooms or doors with glass windows then any characters behind the glass have no hair visible (or clothes with opacity maps such as lace or sheer chiffon). These windows are usually part of the room/building purchased from the DAZ store.
