Viewport Engine?

What is the Viewport Engine good for? Preview only? Can I refine the settings in it allow for a better render?

The Viewport Render Option is what was formerly called OpenGL.  I do not believe that it has any settings that you can change.  There is a multipass Open GL rener option that has some parameters that can be changed, but really it doesn't look a whole lot better.

  • So it's basically a redundant feature?

No.  It's for if you'd like to make an OpenGL render at a size other than your current viewport, or at any size without all the on screen gizmos and whatnot.  I personally find it to be incredibly usefull.  Try it.  It takes about half a second even for a huge size.

It's also very useful for Filament renders.

WendyLuvsCatz and ShelLuser both make good points that I had not thought of.
