RTX 2060 12gb - any insights ?

Hi,

I'm interested in any experiences with the "new" RTX 2060 12gb (for rendering).

Did not find anything in the forums.

    If there are no RTX 3060 12GB's available, it should be better than a GTX with 8GB or less.

    So if there's not much difference between a RTX 2060 12gb and a RTX 3060 12gb (for rendering with Daz)....

    The 2060 is of course a little slower than the 3060.

    The prices for 3060 12GB here in Finland are starting from 390eur (24% VAT included) and I'm getting mine today at 499eur (24% VAT included)

    I bought 2060. When I built this machine it was the first thing I upgraded within a couple of months. It's an OK. It also wasn't 12 GBs it was the 6GB one.

    There's a big difference; it's about half the speed, but draws about the same amount of power.

    The 2060 12GB is a bit of a step up from 10 or 16 series cards for Iray purposes, but I honestly do not recommend it unless you really cannot get hold of a 3060.

    The best thing right now is if you decide on an Evga card do not go with an open box (USED is the real description) and try to stick to a retailer. A truckload of 30xx series got high jacked last year. Other than that I would go for the 3060 12GBs works well for me, or higher if you can afford it.

    With enough overclocking, some 3060 cards can draw 200 or more - Madness! surprise

    Personal experience:  Yes, Virginia.   1960s transistors in metal cans do indeed glow red before they melt.  Proved that in a college lab.  Unintentionally.blush

    This kid doesn't overclock lol! Maybe if I were into games again maybe. Good to know on the power requirements for the 3060. I still run a 1060 6gig and it runs like a champ but at some point I'll want to upgrade. Mostly by then something else will come along.

    I had to underclock my CPU to keep it from thermal throttling even with a liquid cooler while rendering.
