Glossiness is more Diffuse than specular

When you bring glossiness down to zero it has more of a diffuse effect than specular which you'd think by it's 'glossy' name.

Is there a really good tutorial or page detailing the surface elements?

Thanks!

Glossiness controls how smooth the surface is - the lower it is, the rougher the surface and the more spread-out the highlights. Specular strength is the control for how strong those highlights are.

I would add that Specular Strength and Specular Color essentially multiply to get the effective strength of the specular reflection. If you're using older items with DS, what you often find is that the glossiness is way too high, the specular strength is way too high, and the bump is too low.

You might want to browse this thread for applicable tutorials. There used to be more in the old forums...

Ahh - gotcha! That makes more sense. Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot! yes, I was trying to bring down the shine on some clothes and changing the diffuse of some hair. When I changed the 'glossiness' it seemed to have an 'ambient' effect.

Thanks for the help and link!
