GraffitiWorx decal disappearing from West Park Wall when adding charaters [solved]

I want to create a scene involving the West Park asset, its iray addon and the Iray GraffitiWorx product.

If I add a decal to the back wall and add a Genesis 3 character it works. (See attached images; they are grainy, but they should serve for demonstration.)

If I add a Genesis 8 character, the decal disappears. Note that it doesn't matter where the Genesis 8 character is inside the scene; he/she doesn't have to be visible in the render at all. Just the mere presence of the Genesis 8 character causes the decal to disappear. Adding a Genesis 8.1 character has the same effect.

I have done another test with a simple cube, a decal on it, and a Genesis 8 character in front of it and it does not happen there.

Why does this happen in this particular setup?

EDIT:

I thought it could be a RAM-related issue but reducing everything with the Scene Optimizer by a factor of 4 did not help. The decal also disappears if I solely add the Giant Fantasy spider by Predatron, which is unrelated to Genesis, to the scene. It currently doesn't make much sense to me.

Is the decal somehow moving away from the wall, or somewhere else, or un-parented? You can select the decal and see the widget in the Iray preview to see where it actually is.

The decal is currently parented to WP_Cor_Wall (4) of the scene. I've tried moving around the decal a bit and in two of my trials, for a few seconds, it appeared during the rendering process and went away then. I have been so far unable to reproduce this. If I manage, I'll post what I did to achieve this.

Well, that's funny. When I add two Genesis 8 characters and the spider to the scene, the decal is showing inside the NVidia viewport. Not in the actual render, though. If I add clothing to the characters, the decal disappears also from the viewport. Only if I add hair it is still showing in the viewport. Still feels very random.

Memory limit? What's your VRAM and RAM consumption? Granted, West Park, a couple of decals, a G8M figure with hair and clothing, and another G3M figure out of sight still only uses a touch above 3.0 GB of VRAM (with a few browser windows open), almost 3.0 GB more when rendering, still well below my 8GB card.

VRAM consumption is about 4 of 8 GB and RAM consumption is about 20 of 32 GB. I've reduced consumption with the help of the scene optimizer to be sure it is not because of a RAM issue.

Which version of Studio? There have been some changes in the Iray Engine lately (don't ask which version, there was some backtracking at one point). If you are using a General Release, try it in a Beta version to see if there is a difference. Not that anything in your scene sounds "special"...

I still have 4.16 because of the changes with the Ghost Lights in 4.20. I will try with Beta 4.20.

That does not work for me. DIM asks me for an application path for the Beta but does not accept it. Does installing DAZ Beta 4.20 still work, now that the completed version has been released?

I just installed the Beta version, the root folder is the same (probably C:/Program Files - the 64-bit Software Base assigned in DIM) and the installation creates the "DAZStudio4 Public Build" folder under the DAZ 3D folder next to the general release folder. I don't recall DIM asking for any destination...

I got this window. I can only choose the path (the three drop-down lists don't show anything). Doesn't matter which path I try, it isn't accepted. I might take the plunge and upgrade to 4.20 then...

Oh my bad, I didn't look properly, it was the GoZ for DAZ Studio plugin. I can't see the Beta anymore in DIM, when filtering with "DAZ Studio * Public Build". So I guess I would have to go for 4.20 anyway.

Did you "buy" it? It is free, but you must purchase Studio BETA to make it available in DIM.

Oops, you are right. I am going to install this tomorrow and try from there. I've used the decals of GraffitiWorx for several other complex scenes now and it works perfectly there. Looks awesome. It is just that particular scene where this problem occurs.

Something must have "corrupted" my scene. I have loaded the iray version of the West Park asset into a new empty setup, imported my characters there and the decal is now showing. Something is still missing because the lights are not 100% as they used to be, but I can import step by step from the old scene until I hopefully got everything as in the old setup. So I consider this issue to be solved up to a point. Thanks for your help!

    Great!

If the lights have a cutout opacity map, the luminance will now be diminished proportionately. Much has been said about that in several threads, especially about ghost lights.
