Icon File Type Markers - How?

I recently bought a new computer, and in general was able to migrate everything to the new system OK. However, for some reason, the file type banners on my more recent scene files (which I keep in a separate Content directory) have disappeared, which is mildly annoying. They never were on the older ones.
They still appear when running Studio on the old machine; but even if I share them to the new machine, and tell Studio to use that directory, the banners are missing; so it is not something in the file itself. It's rather puzzling.
In general, how does file typing work in Studio, and how can I add these banners myself?

I am not sure what you mean by 'Banners'? Do you mean icons for the Scene files, which are saved as a 91 x 91 pixel PNG files, with exactly the same name as the DUF scene file?
If it is just the File Extensions that are not displaying, that is switched off by default, and can be switched on by going to Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Show File Extensions.
No; I refer to the little colored stripes that appear on the upper right of icons, that say 'SET' or 'SCENE' or whatever. It appears on new saved files for me, but it would be nice to have it on other files. It is information that is displayed under the rubric 'File' when hovering the mouse over an icon as 'Type:'. There is probably a word that DAZ uses for this banner, tag, marker, or whatever, but I do not know what it is. Note that it is added in the content view; the .png file in the directory is not written with the tag.
I would love to know how this works, and why they disappeared from my content view.
I think that's yet another feature controlled by the Content Management database. How do you view your content — Smart Content, Categories, Products, or Poser and D|S Format sections in the Content Library tab? The first three are also dependent on the Content Management Service which builds the content database; if the icon tags are misbehaving, and you're having Weird Stuff™ happening in those content views, it might point to a database glitch.
Note that the database is built on each computer you run D|S on, and it's stored separately from the D|S programs and the actual content location folders. When you connect the old and new machines, the new database won't know about the old content.
You can drag the item from the Content Library into Smart Content, under the appropriate heading on the left, and then set the type in the dialogue that pops up. That should - as long as you make the right selections - add a type tag (and if you have an item, which is itself smart, loaded and selected the dragged item will be made "smart" top that item)..
Did you export your user data prior to copying the files over to the new computer? That should contain the metadata to re-tag your saved scene files, provided you didn't move them from their original location on the old computer.
1. On the old computer, go to the Content Library and launch the Content DB Maintenance from the Active Pane options (the little page icon on the upper right corner)
2. Select Export User Data and click Accept. The process may take a few minutes to export the UserData_1.dsx file.
3. Go to Runtime>Support and copy the UserData_1.dsx file to the new computer placing it in the same location.
4. Repeat step 1 on the new computer.
5. This time, select Re-Import Metadata and click Accept.
6. On the next screen, deselect All Products to deselect all products. Leave User Data and UserData 1 selected and click Accept.
7. I would expect to see the icon type tags reappear on your saved Scene files.
