tweaking the camera to render only half the viewport

Hi,

Is there any way to set the camera up in such a way it only renders half the viewport? (left or right, top or bottom eg)?
I'm trying to experiment with this, but when I change the aspect ratio of my render, the viewport distorts (and the frame keeps the size)
I remember clearly from older versions of Daz Studio, you could get a frame inside your viewport, greying out everything it did not contain, that you could resize by dragging and dropping if I'm not mistaken. How do you do this?

Thanks a lot,
Me

In the dropdown menu for the Viewport, you need to tick 'Show Aspect Frame' that will show you exactly what will be rendered.

If you change the 'Dimension Preset (Global)' in the Render Settings > General, your aspect frame should show the new render area. You can create as many new cameras as you need from the Create menu

This really should be in a sticky list for FAQs. I remember I made basically the same post when I started using DS, and I've seen it asked a dozen times. Love the aspect frame so much.

You still can get the Aspect frame, it's in the viewport option menu - the lined button at top-right. But it isn't what you want - what you can do is switch to the Spot render Tool, in Tool Settings tell it to render to a new window (so you get it full size) and then frag out a marquee in the viewport to select half the view.

I don't think the aspect frame is in there (yet) but see my signature.
