Just a general gripe, but if you could.....

Hey all,

As the title says, this is just a little gripe that I hope a PA might just have a glance at and maybe take note :P

I've bought a couple of sets recently from one PA inparticular, and whilst their sets are amazing in their quality, their scene management is really odd?  Nothing is grouped! Every item in the scene is seperate, which makes modifying or adjusting the scene really tricky and time consuming.  It really does turn what should be a quick job into a major slog, trying to find out what's with what, on what instance of the shelf, etc.

It's just so odd to me that you'd spend all this time making such a well thought out and excecuted product, then to just go and leave every item in one massive long list in the scene tab?

Anyhow, this is just a bit of constructive feedback. I haven't named the vendor, and it's in no way meant to knock their work. It's just a bit of a slight oddity I've noticed with their scenes. And it never happened in their older scenes, it's only the most recent releases!

You can always just group them yourself. What gets me is when there are a bunch of identical props in a scene but the PA didn't use node instances.

That's a tough call. To please everybody, they'd have to make several versions of their product.

    One with everything glued together.

One with everything in smart groups - like "kitchen stove set up" " Shelving Units assortment" "Table spread complete" etc....

And then, of course, EVERY PROP separated for individual loading.

Oh my, maybe even the sub groups in case you just want to laod the fully loaded table. (Some vendors do have groups broken down)

I know the frustration of having a massive list and you add your stuff, it's hard to differentiate.

I end up grouping them up myself, but it's work when the items are close in the 3d space, but far apart on the list.

Oh, and when the name doesn't match the item. lol

It's a lot of work to keep a set versatile.

I would much rather have things in a scene be separate meshes so they can be hidden with one click. Making a wall disappear from the surfaces tab is more work. If things are glued together so you can't move or separate them, that's a lesser product IMO. Groups are handy for moving things together. As noted, groups are easy to do.

While I agree with the multiple item option, I have run into a need/frustration when they are separate. When I want to keep my character at world center, but the scene loads in a location that is awkward for the image I want to create. I open the scene pane to move the set and find a whole lot of items, walls, furniture, lights, exterior environment... and everyone would need to be moved to line up in the correct orientation to one another. I have done it, but I have more often just deleted the environment, and found something else. And made a note not to buy from the PA again.

Options to have various choices is worth my money. I respect quality and consideration of a user's needs.

You can create a new group with all environment props then move the group.
