I followed the directions first applied geo shell to g8f, thyen with geo shell selected apply vellus horizon,
I had to use load all becasue choosing individual parts did not do anything
I was able to apply lipstick to the white lips but I couldnt figure anything out to make the eyes not be white

Now I'm applying the vellus horizon to a second g8f, with this model, Charlie, the lips can not be colored either,
I am selecting the lips with the surface selection tool
Is this Genesis 8 or 8.1?
genesis 8
I selected the geo shell then the lips can be applied, I wasnt doing that before, wes selecting the lips or the eyes but it wont let me put in the eyes, they are all white
I used anothers model's eyes and that did work, some models will work with the eyes and lips and some will not, has anyone else experieneced anything similar?
Still having a lot of problems due to the fact that some models will not work with the eyes/lips so if anyone uses this product without these issues please help me out, thanks
In parameters there are buttons when the geo shell is seleceted
you have to turn off Left and right eye then the shaders can be applied to the eyes
How are you applying the geoshell? The best/easiest way is to use the presets provided with the product. The sequence of activities shoud be this:
1. Load your G8F, then use the provided preset - this will load the geoshell with the various areas transparent (so no white eyes or lips)
2. Select the Geoshell which was created for you and apply the "Whole Body" material preset (nothing much changes in the viewport, but the vellus hair is now loaded)
3. Select the G8F figure itself before applying any different skin/makeup/eyes/etc (my example is from Babina 8)
4. Render and the vellus effect is there - this render I stopped after a couple of minutes, so it's a bit fireflied.
If you load the geoshell directly from the top menu (manually) then the eyes and lips stay white, as you discovered. I think you can get rid of the white by selecting the geoshell and turning the eye surfaces and lips to "off" in the Parameters tab under "Shell", but it's much easier to use the provided presets.
Thanks all your help MelanieL !
I kind of like the blue background behind G8F how can I get backgrounds like that?
thanks again
I put the dark background there so the vellus would show up a little. You want the "Environment" tab, then set Background from "None" to on (a drop-down at the top of the tab) and pick a colour - mine was the darkest of the blue presets, but you can set any colour you like.
ETA: I mean the "Environment" tab, not the Environment section of the Render Settings tab.
PS: I hope you have your G8F fluffed up properly now.
Yes these G8F's skin is pretty good, without the vellus I cant even use g8f I use genesis as I have the booster for that skin which also works good, I also have the rejuventaor for g2F , also good, here's a sample image,
I do get much better esults wit hth figures small, I dont think a close up will turn out to good, Ill do one and show you when I have time, `but whatever happens I am happy to have the Vellus in use with the figures being further away
---- yes after enough mistakes I figured out to use Vellus geo shell and not that from the daz menu!
thanks
For anyone having trouble getting g8f skins looking crisp here is at least one formula that improves things, it is to use the iray vellus along with more enhanced skin that comes on models such as Penny 8 Victoria 8 anhd Olympia 8, all shown in the image
image above is iray vellus with older g8f skins below is newer skins with the iray vellus
I am surprised these enhanced skins have been out for so long but without the vellus the render effect , at least for me, just doesnt do the trick
if were not for the DOF I dont think my renders would look too interesting, the pro renders on daz do not need DOF, they look good with or without it so I know I am not doing things the right way still but still very happy , depending on the scene, the renders are (sometimes) coming out interesting looking finally-think it really depends first that the skin and face can capture the eye enough
