Converting daz files (duf) to poser mat

Hi,

I am fairly new to Daz and will appreciate all the help I can get. I have created a texture set for an existing product. Creating the Daz material files are easy but now for the Poser files. That is tricky as I don't have Poser. Is there a way to do it? Will people buy a new set of clothing textures if it doesn't include files for Poser users?

Thank you so much!

I don't want to discourage you, but be aware that this might end up as a non-trivial exercise, especially as you don't have Poser to test your settings. Basic materials using the DAZ|Studio default shader will usually be fairly easy to convert, although some will need a bit (or a lot) of tweaking to get similar-looking final renders. Anything using other shaders, e.g UberSurface or HHS, will need to be pretty much rebuilt from the beginning, as shaders are tied to the render engine — D|S uses 3Delight (the new version being developed also uses Iray) and Poser uses Firefly. The two are very different, and anything other than very basic materials settings can't be depended on to automatically convert very well. A lot depends on just how you set up your D|S materials.

Hi Addict, thank you for taking the time to explain to me how this works. I did use shaders and now I have a better understanding of what is involved. If you don't mind me asking another question. Is it possible to create texture sets for the Daz market only?

Sure it is, But being an addon it is dependant on the intended market and take up of the original product.

There tends to be a dropoff in takeup of add on components, so if 400 peeps purchased the original, you could expect anywhere from 20-50 percent take up of an add on depending on the quality and where it was sold. For a base product that sold minimally an add on won't be expected to do well at all.

So you need to consider who the intended market was for the original product and how successful it was. If the original product was primarily aimed at Poser users and had minimal take up from DS Users, then there would be a small amount of very appreciative DS users purchase it, if it only contained DS mats. But it would not really be commercially viable for the seller, unless it could be extended to cover the main market of the base product. On the other hand if the original was primarily aimed at DS users a material addon for DS only may still do well.

You could always have a look here if you are interested in publishing here at Daz3D http://www.daz3d.com/community/community-publishing
