Why Opt in to SMS? (A Companion to 'Why Join Discord?')

I joined the Daz Discord server in part because I don't have the Discord app installed on my phone, and am thus immune to endless notifications and pings. SMS, though, is a different story... or is it? Is anyone currently 'opted-in'? How many texts are you getting each day? Had you found it useful (that is to say, advantageous over emails or just checking the site itself?

TBH we seem to live in a world where spam texts are starting to take the place of last year's spam calls about 'your car's warranty,' so I'm very wary about throwing yet another log on that fire.

To be fair, it's not really spam if you actively opted in. Still, when that survey went around a while back, I responded to the question of what I'd be interested in receiving SMS messages for with "nothing, ever".

I am recieving maybe one or two texts per day. Mostly they are just notifications of short term sales. It is easy enough to delete or ignore them if you aren't interest in the message.

    Step 1: Opt in

Step 2: Monitor how many texts you get

Step 3: Gauge your level of annoyance with said texts

Step 4: Opt out if necessary. Or stay in.

I can see those complaining about sales at times they are asleep appreciating the wakeup ding wink

I myself could not imagine anything worse cheeky

Well, I got my reason today - a freebie. I hope I won't get flooded with SMSes though (which I forward as emails so that I can inbox sort & priority at any rate so not a big deal I guess).

Just wondering how much they will make selling your phone numbers.

...got the orange banner, not interested in any of the "free" characters (as I still use G3), and not interested in getting extra texts popping up at inopportune times.  Bad enough this is an election year and I am getting texts I don't want or requested (I keep opting out but somehow the show up again after a few days).

I only use texting for notification of appointments, meetings with people I know, and for emergencies.

Did you actually get it free? At least some people are seeing it as $8.99

Hmm, I guess I'm not missing much, then. I signed up, opted in almost a week ago and saw maybe one Daz3D text come early on. Nothing since.
Forgot about it until seeing this thread this morning. Now if I could just stop peeking into the web site, purposefully looking for sales, I'd be even more able to stop buying things!

I wouldn't be too concerned. If you ever bought anything here (or online anywhere) with a credit card, your phone number is already on file.

The bigger issue to me is, the freebies are trinkets in the grand scheme. It's probably too much to hope for a pro pack, but I'd be more interested in a starter pack. A bare figure doesn't do it for me. YMMV.

I have no issue opting into sms to get discounts. I can filter them out if they get annoying.

  • Well, I guess they shut down the thing early - I'm trying to opt in, and every time I save my Yes, it reverts me back to No. They REALLY don't want to sell me stuff via SMS, I guess.

    Is it a US number?
