So, somewhere there is probably a discussion about how and why the G8M and G8F mouth changes from slightly open in texture shaded mode, where I can see the teeth, to fully closed once the Iray mode is engaged. Anyone know why the models work this way?
The problem is, it makes it hard to gauge the amount the mouth is open and how intense the expressions are.
Especially when I'm manually doing the characters talking.
Who knows about this and what did I miss?

Displacement?
I've noticed this. I've also noticed that expressions applied to characters can look markedly different in texture shaded vs iray. There are times I don't like the look of one in texture, but iray looks exactly how I want it.
Whenever possible I set my characters expressions while in iray preview.
Unfortunately I can't add anything about the why.
Another potential issue is that the render will generally use a higher level of SubD than the preview.
Yes, I like where that's going. I still don't understand how that would make the mouth open slightly.
Showing teeth to NOT showing teeth is a huge difference. That 8.1 generation is a trippy thing.
I wish the search engines did more to separate the 8.0 and 8.1 products.
Also, I find that a lot of items (mostly any vendor that has a G3 and G8 version of their release- have Genesis 3 in their preset name, but are actually for the 8.0 characters in the file display.
That's another issue...
