[vent] The Fairies Mega Bundle => this is AWESOME!

Hi gang,

I sporadically buy bundles but despite having learned not to rely on (IMO): "misrepresenting images" (to keep it friendly) I still more than often end up with a bundle that provides me with everything it promised and yet I still somewhat expected to get just a little bit more out of it. I'm not trying to claim that the bundle was bad or at fault (though I do dislike it when bundles use product images which feature stuff that wasn't even in the bundle to begin with and then don't mention any of that, not even on the individual product pages) but... I dunno. Don't get me wrong here: I'm not trying to insinuate that I ended up unhappy with my past purchases, but sometimes I was just hoping / expecting just that little bit of extra.

SO... being a rather vivid fan of fantasy sceneries and having pretty good experiences with the previously sold Orla Fae bundle I couldn't resist grabbing....

https://www.daz3d.com/clash-of-the-fairies-mega-bundle

"Clash of the Fairies Mega Bundle" (it's basically 2 bundles rolled into one).

Now, straight off the bat I'm not going to pretend that this is perfect, it's not. For example we have Gwyneira who has a rather unique head chain but... beats me what that exactly is. This chain is even featured in her figure icon within Daz Studio yet... not included. Nor mentioned.

But then I check out the product contents (Content Library pane FTW!) and... oh dear, if I then look at all the stuff that IS included... full maps, full gens (female and male?!), blush presets, eyebrow presets, tons of eye shadow, lashes, lips and nail presets....  and that's just one included character!

The wings for both Genesis 8.1 AND 8 for example are really impressive (5 material presets though but... the looks you guys...), and the best part? I even made these "Copperwhirl dForce wings" work with.... Genesis..... one. THAT is in my humble opinion solid proof of a solid design (this definitely doesn't usually work, more than often I made stuff work using ZBrush). Oh wait, is that product page icon showing exactly the amount of material presets you get? ;)

I can't comment on the poses because I hardly ever use those (at best to get me a head start if something matches, but usually I don't bother at all) but I can comment on the figures... Pippy Fay then. Not as excessive as the previously mentioned Gwyneira but ... what an amazing fairy figure! A solid collection of eyebrows, lashes, eye colors, eye shadow and lips. Not to mention makeup. She's even small by default, which makes resizing her even more all the more easy.

And then of course the contemplation pool. For both Iray and 3Delight (!). And yes: it has lillies! <3

Sorry for the vent but I just wanted to share how impressed and happy I ended up after I started to really dig into this bundle. As mentioned: while I also used parts of it (wings) with one of my favorite original Genesis (one) figures. Not to mention that because all assets are compatible with Genesis 8/8.1 they can also be applied to pretty much every other Genesis8 female figure (though that is of course nothing special, that held true for past generations as well). Even so.... I couldn't help mention it considering the massive focus on G8 right now. Also considering that ...

.. so I grabbed a basic Genesis 8 female figure (I have all base Genesis models in their own separate category), added the Copperwhirl skirt, and then GoZ'd the whole lot over. For the record: I'm hardly an expect on this matter (I've only began using ZBrush for a litlte over a year, I still have so much to learn) BUT....   when I then check out the details of the mesh and see something like this (= imgur image link) then I am very much impressed.

After having plenty of semi-negative (not shared) impressions on some bundles I couldn't help myself on this fine Friday evening by sharing my admiration and satisfaction with this one amazing faries bundle. Heck... I'm not even much of a dForce fan! :)

Thanks for reading, I hope this could give some of you random readers at least some useful impressions.

Thank you very much for sharing that link, much appreciated!

It's a bit too much for me right now (I kinda went overboard with my Dune fascination ;)) but I made sure to add it to my wishlist. My birthday is coming up soon so... who knows :)

    Thanks again!

...this was one of those rare bundles that caught my eye and I actually considered when it was on sale last month (I have a soft spot for the fey and they figure into my stories), until I noticed the central character is G8.1.

The G8 to G3 character converter does not work on  G8.1 characters/figures.

I admit my heart sank a bit when I read vent in the title but what a nice surprise when I read your post :D I am very happy that you like the bundle.

I actually used Gravity Sketch in VR to get the volume/outlines for the mask, skirt and wings - walking around a lifesize Genesis while you're sketching out the design is very similar to sculpting in RL and seeing it from all angles makes it easy to adjust the design on the fly, especially for the wings. After that I took the obj into Modo to finetune and UVmap.

Wow cool, thanks for sharing this about your workflow! VR makes so much sense here really. Your pics are fascinating. I don't have time to get back into modelling myself, but I get to live a bit vicariously through people sharing interesting info like you, which is very nice.

Yeah, not sure how this is a "vent" if you're feeling mostly positive about the bundle... I actually had a hard time gauging the tone of your post for much of my read because I was always waiting for the "vent" part to come.

But semanthics aside, I'm glad you're happy with your purchase!

Sorry about the scare, yeah that's just me. See, I don't plan posts like this and just decide to write it up and make it up along the way. As such the story can go either way which made me decide on 'vent'. Although I agree that it has a negative reputation it officially really doesn't have to be.. I always wonder between rant or vent because to me that's what it is: a huge stream of words trying to get my message across.

Thanks for your comment and the extra info, much appreciated!

And of course, once again: big compliments, this is an utmost pleasure to work with!

I was happy to read the vent, we need more vents like this lol - thank you for posting it!

I can't use most of the bundle, but I went and wishlisted several items (can't believe I missed a Stonemason!)  because of your 'rant', so thank you! The masks and Melantha wings are right up my alley - I do love faeries!
