4.20 scene files Backwards compatible?

while the rendering problems in 4.20 seen to only effect a few (or a few who complain about it) the question becomes in the past I could work in the newer version and then go back and open in an older version.
If this is still true then the worry about updateing (assuming you copy your old daz folder to another drive) shouldn't matter.
Acceepting that some bells and whistles that the new version might have for rendering might be lost but the scene file itself should open?

The newest version does fix things like the disappearing curser?

In general yes, though as you say some specific things may have issues (e.g. trying to use Genesis 8.1 in a version before 4.15.x.x it probably won't be able to find any Genesis 8 assets used).

  • Should be no issue than... the items of worry would be all the buildings I've modeled and the cat characters, while the bodies have been upgraded to gen 8, the heads are still the gen 1 because the head size morphs available for 1 that I used are only available there, and skin the cats all wear "fur" the skin upgrades of 8.1 aren't needed
When you say genesis 8 assets do you mean genesis 8.1 assets?
    ---
    thanks for the reply

I mean Genesis 8 assets that are picked up by Genesis 8.1 in Daz Studio 4.15.x.x+

I was forgetting that there have been some chnages in Shader Mixer, which may well affect any shders you have that use that or that have been updated to take account of the changes. See the change log http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log_4_20_0_17
