Need advise on vacuum/blower

Took the plunge and bought a RTX 3060. Woot Woot!  Whille I would like to have a 3090 I just cannot justify spending that kind of money, but hopefully in the future!

As I was trying to clean out the inside I decided I really needed a more dedicated vacuum and/or blower to clean the inside, I currently use our shop vac with attachments and canned air.  So I was wondering what everyone uses and if anyone has any suggestions.  I was looking at the XPower A-2 which is just a blower.

I would be careful with a normal vacuum as it could produce a static charge and damage your MOBO, although rare, I have seen it happen twice. Also be careful with your fans as they can produce a charge when manually spun and many MOBOs don't handle that well.. I use a small preassure tank with an airbrush nozzle I got used, and it works better than canned compressed air. I also keep my finger on the fans when cleaning to keep them still..

If you must use a vaccum, there are ones made for PC use with anti static options, just google it.

I've got an IT Dusters CompuCleaner which is a similar beast. Works well enough and doesn't produce moisture or cause static which some other solutions can. Moves more air than a can with the pointy nozzel on. The only downside is that all the dust that was in the PC now won't be, with extreme prejudice. I take the PC outside every few months and give it a blow out.

Small objects or better yet, colorful pipe cleaners (metal wires wrapped in fuzzy fabric) are an easy temporary fix to fans that might spin unintentionally.enlightened

You can't beat a proper air compressor

Been waiting for the temperatures to get up outside, so that I can cover the neighborhood in a dust cloudblush

Interesting ideas on the air compressors, will have to look into that.  Never thought about the vacuum creating a charge with the attachements on and to be honest most of the time I ended up using my computer brush and or canned air and brushing out the dust towards the vac just holding it in the general area.  Its just to much trouble trying to manuver the vac around.

Good idea LeatherGryphon!  I have some of those around somewhere will have to find them for next time.  I usually hold it with my fingers to keep them from spinning.

An issue with using an air compressor is that they always build up moisture / water inside the tank, and that could cause problems down the line.

That said, I'd think in an AC environment with the PC warming up the moisture would be gone quick, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I use a vacuum along with the compressed air, the vacuum nozzle mostly just near to suck in the dust blown free from the air duster, and externally I'll use the vacuum nozzle for fans and back of the video card for a push/pull with the duster.

That thing is a god send. I love mine. We bought one probably 10 yrs ago and still runs strong and I use it for a lot of things besides cleaning out the computer.

If I was using a compressor I'd want a moisture trap on it.

I've always stopped fans spinning by shoving my remaining fingers in there...

Used to do this for a living, We used compressors with moisture traps, chopped down 1" good quality natural bristle paint brushes and Amberclens anti static foaming cleaner.
