Is this even possible?

I have a question: is it possible to take, say, Jerry Jang's XuanWu, bring it or parts of it into some other program like ZBrush or Blender, and edit it to add extra Material Zones that can be accessed through the Shader tab? I'd like to be able to, say, edit the shoulder pads so that they're different colors and shaders within the Shader tab rather than having to edit the texture maps with an image editing program. If I wanted to turn XuanWu into The Green Turtle with silver trimming for his armor, I'd love to be able to do it from within the Shader tab instead of bouncing back and forth between 2 programs until I found the look I'm most happy with.

I'm a complete ZBrush and Blender novice but I'd be willing to learn if it gives me the chance to edit models so I can eaily tweak them for my workflow. Might there be some other method of doing what I'm asking about? If anyone has seen a step-by-step tutorial or any expert guidance, I'd greatly appreciate a link or two.

Thanks in advance for any assistance anyone may be able to offer!

You can do all of this within DS, no need for ZBrush. Granted, I'm sure ZBrush's tools are much more user friendly than the Geometry Editor, but it's definitely possible.

As Gordig mentioned, it's very possible using the geometry editor. Just select the geopmetry editor in the TOOLS tab, select the polys you want to be a different mat zone, and then right click for options to create a new surface from the selected polys.

Oh, that's great! Thank you both for the head's up on this feature. I've been using DS since it was first released and I keep finding new features to play with.

    Thanks again!
