"PostgreSQL CMS From Valentina CMS Conversion" do I need this?

I don't "think" I use Valentina. So can I hide this conversion thing in my DIM download tab?

I ran mine some months ago, and it is now in the Installed tab.

If you are using PostgreSQL, then when you run DS, there should be several versions of it running in the Task Manager.

If everything works for you as is, just hide it.

If you still use Valentina and are switching to PostgreSQL the conversion tool will (try to) convert your database -that's what it does as it "installs". It may fail if the Valentina database was on the verge of becoming corrupt. Once you have started using PostgreSQL there's probably no reason to use it - you can always find the install date.for PostgreSQL, if you used DIM, by typing PostgreSQL in the filter box at top right and then hovering the mouse over the item's entry to read the date from the tool tip (it's towards the end).

I got 2 related problems to this thread.
    1) I have been using Valentina CMS and I understand DS 4.8 uses postgre SQL. I updated to DS 4.8 and I can see my old content organised in my categories on start up. I have read about a Valentina to PostgreSQL conversion utility but I do not see this anywhere. I had the DS4.8 executable for updating but no separate utility. I don't use DIM and have been loading my content manually. Question how do I get this conversion utility or where should I see it?
    2) I have 4 DS installations at 2 separate locations. I don't want to update my content on each PC. Which files do I need to transfer across once I have updated to PostgreSQL? (For valentina you told me about the databases directory and that worked fine).

The location of the PostgreSQL database is given in Edit>Preferences>CMS Settings, the Cluster location.

Are you installing with the Install Manager or with the stand-alone version?

    Thanks. C:/users/Penelopa/AppData/Roaming/DAZ 3D/cms !!!!
A completely useless directory which I will need to change to be common to all 4 PCs.
Why would anyone want to collect data onto an operating system drive.
Still importantly you have told me how I find out.

I installed DS 4.8 without Install Manager but am now using IM to get the conversion utility.
So I have used IM to install this only and am looking through DS4.8 to see where this script can be run.

Actually running conversion utility via IM seems to have done the trick. So remaining question is can I manually change position of PostgreSQL database .

    Yup.

    1) From the content library pane (NOT smart content) click on the options button
    2) stop cms
    3) Edit -> preferences; right hand tab - shows where the database currently is
    4) With Windows Explorer move the cluster to where you want it
    5) Update the location in preferences; accept
    6) options button; start cms

    all done

Thanks that's great. Everything works OK now.
My attempts to do similar had failed because I did not stop the content manager first.

I know this is an old thread but I just saw this file in DIM. I'm installing fresh everything on a new PC. I'm guessing it's nolonger needed?

Nope, you'd go straight to postgreSQL.

So, is having Valentina installed the whole reason every time I have to resinstall daz for whatever reason I get the PostgreSQL error? I have to admit that is just string of meaningless letters to me. I have no idea what it does other than when it's messed up I get an error message. I've uninstalled Valentina, deleted the install and hidden it in DIM. I'm posting this because I'm sure, I'll have to resinstall Daz again at some point and have no memory of what I did to fix it just as every other time I've had this issue. I think I've fixed it in the past with various different methods. I understand nothing in the threads about it. This is the only one that makes me feel I has some clue about what I was doing. Thanks.

  • Valentina shoukld have no effect on PostgreSQL, it's just that the old (no later than DS 4.8, or possibly 4.9) Valentina database cannot be read by PostgreSQL and so needs conversion. If there was a Valentina-format databse and it wasn't converted then the PostgreSQL databse would be empty.

Thanks, yeah, I only stopped getting the warning message. My Smart content, that I happened not to be using that day, isn't working now. I haven't had this problem before. PostgreSQL lots of times but, never the Smart Content vanish.

If you were using a PostgreSQL-only versions of DS (4.9+ at least) then Smart Content absolutely requires PostgreSQL to be active.

    Edited to fix version number

2.9+ is that a typo? Do you mean 4.9+?
  • Yes, editing to fix.
