Daz 4.8 bench 3dlight & Iray

Hi all,

I’m jumping in the 4.8 iradium train and take the oportunity to speak about performance/benchmark.
I’d like this thread to be a humble but useful source of bench/info wich can help choosing some hardware.

I have a bunch of images to render, mostly characters ones. (no big sets, just single char etc…). Waiting for a render is a pain. I think that for me, the iray engine should help the best here, in the real time preview.

But, I’ve seen also that 3Dlight has improved its perfs. I THANK DAZ TO GIVE ME A 20% speed improvement! I went from 17mn to 14mn without touching a thing, just upgrading daz from 4.7 to 4.8. FOR FREE! Nice.

I’d like you to share some results here.

The bench: Barefoot dancer, render default wich produce a 1000*1300 image.

So here are my results:
CPU: intel i5 3570K (3.4Ghz, 4 cores 4 threads) (at stock)
Win 7 x64

3Dlight
Render 4.7: 17mn20s
Render 4.8: 14mn15s

Iray
CPU: 698 Iray iterations, 1h30mn (but image is too grainy, unusable)
(how can I improve this??? No idead)
(And as soon as I cancel the render, It leads to a crash)

I don’t have (yet) a Nvidia GPU. This is also a goal of this thread, giving some real life time comparison to know which GPU we should aim for to get the best hardware for money ratio.
What’s about the core market GPU: nvidia 960 GTX, 970 GTX 980GTX? That is the main question I’m asking myself: which of the 3 should I buy? Should I get a double 970 or a single 980? (for the same price). It seems that 4GB should be enough memory for me, shouldn’t it?
(I know that there is another thread about perf but with a specific file. Barefoot dancer scene, EVERYBODY gor it ;-) )

So, any enlightment (in the figurative sense), numbers or…tips to get the rendered image faster are welcome.

I know, I spoke about it but it is a custom scene. the barefoot dancer, everybody has it and it is more close to most people need I think.. this topic should be a good bench for processors+3Dlight engine also, not reduced to Iray.

at least, can someone give me an time for the barefoot render with a RECENT and TOP i7 processor? I'd like to upgrade my hardware, and I don't know if changing my CPU will be worth it.
